Hindemith Prize
The international Paul Hindemith Prize promotes outstanding contemporary composers within the framework of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF). The award commemorates the musical pedagogy of Paul Hindemith, who wrote the composition ''Plöner Musiktag'' in 1932 on behalf of the Staatliche Bildungsanstalt Plön. The music prize is endowed with €20,000 and goes together with a composition commission. The prize is presented annually by the Hindemith Foundation, the Walter and Käthe Busche Foundation, the Rudolf and Erika Koch Foundation, the Gerhard Trede Foundation, the Franz Wirth Memorial Trust and the Cultural Office of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg since 1990. From 2010 to 2013, the winner was found by a composition competition. The work of the prize winner is to be premiered within the frame of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Blonay
Blonay () is a former municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the district of Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut District, Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Vaud in Switzerland. Thomas Adès
Thomas Joseph Edmund Adès (born 1 March 1971) is a British composer, pianist and conductor. Five compositions by Adès received votes in the 2017 Classic Voice poll of the greatest works of art music since 2000: '' The Tempest'' (2004), ''Violin Concerto'' (2005), ''Tevot'' (2007), '' In Seven Days'' (2008), and '' Polaris'' (2010). Biography Adès was born in London to art historian Dawn Adès and poet Timothy Adès. His surname is of Syrian Jewish origin. Adès studied piano with Paul Berkowitz and later composition with Robert Saxton at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Anna Clyne
Anna Clyne (born 9 March 1980, in London) is an English composer, now resident in New York, US. She has worked in both acoustic music and electro-acoustic music. Biography Clyne began writing music as a child, completing her first composition at age 7. Her first composition to receive a public performance was at the Oxford Youth Prom when she was 11. She formally studied music at the University of Edinburgh, from which she graduated with a first-class Bachelor of Music degree with honours. She later studied at the Manhattan School of Music and earned a Master of Arts, MA degree in music. Her teachers have included Marina Adamia, Marjan Mozetich and Julia Wolfe. Clyne was director of the New York Youth Symphony's "Making Score" program for young composers from 2008 to 2010. Li Bo (composer)
Li Bai (, 701–762), also pronounced as Li Bo, courtesy name Taibai (), was a Chinese poet, acclaimed from his own time to the present as a brilliant and romantic figure who took traditional poetic forms to new heights. He and his friend Du Fu (712–770) were two of the most prominent figures in the flourishing of Chinese poetry in the Tang dynasty, which is often called the " Golden Age of Chinese Poetry". The expression "Three Wonders" denotes Li Bai's poetry, Pei Min's swordplay, and Zhang Xu's calligraphy. Around 1000 poems attributed to Li are extant. His poems have been collected into the most important Tang dynasty poetry, ''Heyaue yingling ji'', compiled in 753 by Yin Fan. Thirty-four of Li Bai’s poems are included in the anthology ''Three Hundred Tang Poems'', which was first published in the 18th century. Johannes Maria Staud
Johannes Maria Staud (born 17 August 1974) is an Austrian composer. Biography Staud was born in Innsbruck and studied with, among others, Brian Ferneyhough and Michael Jarrell (at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna). In 1999/2000 Staud was fellow of the Alban Berg Foundation. He gained a publishing contract with Universal Edition in 2000. He was co-founder of the composers group ''Gegenklang'' in Vienna. His ''Apeiron. Music for Large Orchestra'' was premiered by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle in 2005, and his ''Segue. Márton Illés
Márton Illés (born 12 December 1975 in Budapest), is a Hungarian composer and pianist. Illés received musical training in piano, composition and percussion in Győr from 1981 to 1994. In 1993 he spent one academical term at the conservatory of Zurich with pianist Hadassa Schwimmer. He studied the piano with László Gyimesi at the Hochschule für Musik Basel, completing his solo diploma in 1998. He continued his piano studies with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling in Hannover. Dai Fujikura ( ja, 藤倉 大 ''Fujikura Dai''; born 27 April 1977) is a Japanese-born composer of contemporary classical music. Biography Dai Fujikura was born in 1977 in Osaka, Japan. He moved to London when he was 15 to study at Dover College as a music scholar to complete his secondary education. His initial ambition was to compose music for cinema. Studying the music of Pierre Boulez, György Ligeti and Tōru Takemitsu at Trinity College of Music provoked a gestalt shift: Dai became an aspiring contemporary composer whose extensive knowledge of cinematography gave his music a fresh, individual voice.
