Hillhead RFC
Hillhead Rugby Football Club is a former rugby union football club based in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1904 as a club for former pupils of Hillhead High School, it lasted until 1988 when it merged with Jordanhill RFC to form Hillhead Jordanhill RFC. Foundation as a Sports Club Hillhead Sports Club was formed in 1902 as a private club for former pupils of Hillhead High School, catering for various sports including football, cricket, hockey and athletics. Rugby and Scotstoun A rugby team, Hillhead High School Former Pupils RFC, was formed in 1904. The club used the Scotstoun Showgrounds as a home until 1922. Hughenden The Hillhead club sought to find a permanent home after the First World War, purchasing land at Hughenden in 1922. The club's new home, with its pavilion designed W. The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; gd, Aonadh Rugbaidh na h-Alba) is the governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Styled as Scottish Rugby, it is the second oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. The SRU oversees the national league system, known as the Scottish League Championship, and the Scottish National teams. Sport plays an important role in the culture of Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland. Hillhead
Hillhead ( sco, Hullheid, gd, Ceann a' Chnuic) is an area of Glasgow, Scotland. Situated north of Kelvingrove Park and to the south of the River Kelvin, Hillhead is at the heart of Glasgow's fashionable West End, with Byres Road forming the western border of the area, the other boundaries being Dumbarton Road to the south and the River Kelvin to the east and north. History Hillhead was an independent police burgh from 1869, but as Glasgow grew during the nineteenth century it was first swallowed up physically by the growing city, and then administratively in 1891. Glasgow District (rugby Union)
Glasgow District was a Scottish amateur rugby union team which now plays as the professional provincial side Glasgow Warriors. Founded in 1872 it was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Greater Glasgow area, as well as others from the rest of the west of Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Strathclyde regional council area. Historically the Glasgow District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Glasgow District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Edinburgh District rugby union team. Iain Ross (born 15 December 1928) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. Ross played as a scrum half. Rugby career Amateur career Ross played for Hillhead HSFP. Allan Cameron (4 March 1924 – 15 October 2009) was a Scotland international rugby union footballer. Normally a Centre, he also played on the Wing. Rugby career Amateur career Cameron played for Hillhead HSFP. Provincial career He broke through while playing with Hillhead HSFP to play for Glasgow District. He was part of the Glasgow District side that won the Inter-City match against Edinburgh in 1947–48. He later won three Inter-City matches in a row with Glasgow in 1950–51, 1951–52 and 1952–53. He was selected for the Scotland Possibles side in 1947. He played in the Scottish Inter-District Championship winning the title with Glasgow in the 1955–56 season.
