Allan Cameron (rugby Union)
Allan Cameron (4 March 1924 – 15 October 2009) was a Scotland international rugby union footballer. Normally a Centre, he also played on the Wing. Rugby career Amateur career Cameron played for Hillhead HSFP. Provincial career He broke through while playing with Hillhead HSFP to play for Glasgow District. He was part of the Glasgow District side that won the Inter-City match against Edinburgh in 1947–48. He later won three Inter-City matches in a row with Glasgow in 1950–51, 1951–52 and 1952–53. He was selected for the Scotland Possibles side in 1947. He played in the Scottish Inter-District Championship winning the title with Glasgow in the 1955–56 season. It was Glasgow's first Inter-District title. International career He was capped for three times from 1951 to 1954, playing in three Five Nations matches. The Scottish Inter-District Championship is a rugby union competition between regional sides in Scotland. Established in 1953, the tournament went through several formats. The Scottish Rugby Union confirmed in January 2023 that the Scottish Inter-District Championship would return for the 2022-23 season, starting in May 2023. The Inter-District Championship will be an amateur championship with players selected outwith the professional United Rugby Championship and Super 6 leagues. Centre (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs.
