Hillhead HSFP
Hillhead Rugby Football Club is a former rugby union football club based in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1904 as a club for former pupils of Hillhead High School, it lasted until 1988 when it merged with Jordanhill RFC to form Hillhead Jordanhill RFC. Foundation as a Sports Club Hillhead Sports Club was formed in 1902 as a private club for former pupils of Hillhead High School, catering for various sports including football, cricket, hockey and athletics. Rugby and Scotstoun A rugby team, Hillhead High School Former Pupils RFC, was formed in 1904. The club used the Scotstoun Showgrounds as a home until 1922. Hughenden The Hillhead club sought to find a permanent home after the First World War, purchasing land at Hughenden in 1922. The club's new home, with its pavilion designed W. Scottish Rugby Union
The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU; gd, Aonadh Rugbaidh na h-Alba) is the governing body of rugby union in Scotland. Styled as Scottish Rugby, it is the second oldest Rugby Union, having been founded in 1873. The SRU oversees the national league system, known as the Scottish League Championship, and the Scottish National teams. Hillhead
Hillhead ( sco, Hullheid, gd, Ceann a' Chnuic) is an area of Glasgow, Scotland. Situated north of Kelvingrove Park and to the south of the River Kelvin, Hillhead is at the heart of Glasgow's fashionable West End, with Byres Road forming the western border of the area, the other boundaries being Dumbarton Road to the south and the River Kelvin to the east and north. Glasgow District (rugby Union)
Glasgow District was a Scottish amateur rugby union team which now plays as the professional provincial side Glasgow Warriors. Founded in 1872 it was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Greater Glasgow area, as well as others from the rest of the west of Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Strathclyde regional council area. Historically the Glasgow District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Glasgow District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Edinburgh District rugby union team. Iain Ross (born 15 December 1928) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. Ross played as a scrum half. Rugby career Amateur career Ross played for Hillhead HSFP. Provincial career Ross played for Glasgow District in the 1950 Inter-City match against Edinburgh District. The Herald picked out Ross, J. A. Fergusson and J.C. Dawson as Glasgow's best players in an 11 - 3 victory. Ross also played in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. He played in the 1954–55 season's match against North and Midlands and in the same season's Inter-City match against Edinburgh District.
