Highland Range (Clark County)
The Highland Range of Clark County, Nevada, is a small long,Nevada Atlas & Gazetteer, DeLorme, c. 2010, p. 72 range south of Henderson, Nevada and separated from the southeast flank of the McCullough Range by a narrow, approximately three-mile wide valley, at the head of Piute Wash. The Highland Range also lies on the southwest border region of the endorheic Eldorado Valley. The Highland Range Crucial Bighorn Habitat Area is a large part of the range's north, and also the alluvial plains on the northeast above Eldorado Valley. Description The Highland Range is about 10 miles long. A north section with a ridgeline extends somewhat into Eldorado Valley; the center and southeast gradually lower in elevation toward the southern margin of Eldorado Valley, just to the northwest of the mining area around Searchlight. Eldorado Valley
Eldorado Valley, or El Dorado Valley, is a Great Basin valley in the Mojave Desert southeast of Las Vegas and southwest of Boulder City, Nevada. The valley is endorheic, containing the Eldorado Dry Lake. The Great Basin Divide, transects ridgelines and saddles, on the north, northeast, east, and south around the valley, as the valley sits on the east of the McCullough Range, a Great Basin massif, on the Great Basin Divide at its north terminus and its south terminus. Geography The north end of the valley contains a large salt pan, or dry lake, Dry Lake or Eldorado Playa, while the southern two thirds drains northwards. U.S. Route 95 traverses eastern portions of the valley, and climbs steeply to meet U.S. Route 93, connecting Boulder City to Henderson. McCullough Range
The mountains in the McCullough Range lie mostly above the city of Henderson in the U.S. state of Nevada. The range has two distinct areas with the northern portion being primarily volcanic in origin, while the southern part of the range is primarily composed of metamorphic rock. McCullough Range was named after a pioneer settler. Wilderness Areas Some of the northern part of the range is designated as the North McCullough Wilderness by the US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management while some of the southern part of the range is similarly designated as the South McCullough Wilderness. The Piute Wash of extreme southeastern Nevada and northeast San Bernardino County California is the south-flowing drainage of the Piute Valley. The wash and valley are located northwest of Needles, California. The Piute Wash watershed and Piute Valley drain the eastern flank of the north-south Piute Range; the main wash drains portions of the northwest Newberry Mountains. An endorheic basin (; also spelled endoreic basin or endorreic basin) is a drainage basin that normally retains water and allows no outflow to other external bodies of water, such as rivers or oceans, but drainage converges instead into lakes or swamps, permanent or seasonal, that equilibrate through evaporation.
