''Het Volk'' ( en, The People) was a Belgian newspaper that focused on "news with a human undertone". History ''Het Volk'' was first published in 1891. It was the only paper controlled by the Christian labour organizations in Ghent. It opposed socialism. It adopted "anti-socialist daily" as its slogan. The paper was distributed in Ghent, Aalst and Brussels. In 1912, the slogan was changed to "Christian labourer's daily". In 1925, ''Het Volk'' was the first newspaper in Belgium to publish a small Sunday issue, "Het Zondagsblad" ("The Sunday Paper"). In 1930 it adopted the subtitle "Catholic Democratic Newspaper of Flanders". During the Second World War, Het Volk sold 35,000 a day. It gained international attention in 1944 when it was the first - and for a time, the only - paper to report the Von Rundstedt Offensive in the Ardennes. Von Rundstedt Offensive
The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II. The battle lasted from 16 December 1944 to 28 January 1945, towards the end of the war in Europe. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region between Belgium and Luxembourg. The primary military objectives were to deny further use of the Belgian port of Antwerp to the Allies and to split the Allied lines, which potentially could have allowed the Germans to encircle and destroy the four Allied forces. Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, who since December 1941 had assumed direct command of the German army, believed that achieving these objectives would compel the Western Allies to accept a peace treaty in the Axis powers' favor. ''Ons Volkske'' (literally: "Our little people") was the youth supplement of the Flemish newspaper ''Ons Volk Ontwaakt''. It was published without interruption from 1932 until 1988, except for the years during World War II. The magazine was notable for its comics and together with '''t Kapoentje'' it was the most important comic book magazine in Flanders. History On 25 September 1932 the first issue of ''Ons Volkske'' was published by n.v. Periodica. All comics in the magazine were drawn by Eugeen Hermans, aka "Pink", except for '' Adamson'' by Danish cartoonist Oscar Jacobsson. During the nazi occupation from 1940 until 1945 all production was ceased, but from 11 March 1945 it was republished. After 42 issues it became an independent weekly magazine. Groot-Bijgaarden (officially) or Grand-Bigard is a village and deelgemeente in the municipality of Dilbeek, a suburb of Brussels, in Flanders, Belgium.
