Heróis do Mar was a Portuguese pop rock band formed in March 1981. The group was disbanded in 1990. Their name ''Heróis do Mar'' is taken from the first line of the Portuguese national anthem. New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. It was originally used as a catch-all for the various styles of music that emerged after punk rock, including punk itself. Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Pedro Aires Ferreira de Almeida Gonçalves Magalhães (born 31 July 1959), known as Pedro Ayres Magalhães, is a Portuguese musician, best known as a founding member and the main songwriter of the musical group Madredeus. Magalhães has also been a member of the pop rock band Heróis do Mar and the Portuguese supergroup Resistência. Early life Pedro Ayres Magalhães was born on 31 July 1959. He attended the Colégio Militar in Lisbon until the 5th grade, quitting shortly after the Carnation Revolution. Afterwards he joined the Academy of Musical Amateurs (''Academia dos Amadores de Música''), where he stayed until the age of 20. Magalhães studied music and classical guitar during his youth.
