Herzog Von Ratibor-Rennen
The Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to two-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run at Krefeld over a distance of 1,700 metres (1 mile and 99 yards), and it is scheduled to take place each year in November. History The event was established in 1876, and it was initially called the Deutscher Gestüt-Preis. It was originally run at Hoppegarten over 1,200 metres. The race was renamed the Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen in the 1890s. It was named after Viktor, Herzog von Ratibor (1818–93), who served as chairman of German racing's Union-Club. The Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen was extended to 1,400 metres in 1906. It was moved to Grunewald and cut to 1,200 metres in 1918. It was restored to 1,400 metres in 1920, and returned to Hoppegarten in 1925. The race was cancelled in 1945 and 1946. It was held at Gelsenkirchen in 1947 and Dortmund in 1948. Krefeld ( , ; li, Krieëvel ), also spelled Crefeld until 1925 (though the spelling was still being used in British papers throughout the Second World War), is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Nereide (horse)
Nereide (1933 – 22 April 1943 ) was an undefeated Thoroughbred racemare that won the 1936 German Derby (in track record time) and the 1936 German Oaks. Breeding She was foaled in 1933 on the stud of Erlenhof in Germany. Nereide was by the German sire, Laland, her dam was the Federico Tesio owned mare, Nella da Gubbio (ITY) by The Derby winner, Grand Parade (GB) from Nera di Bicci (GB) (dam of Neroccia (ITY), won 1926 Italian Oaks) by Tracery (USA). The third dam of Nereide was Catnip (IRE) (who was second dam of the undefeated Nearco, and a daughter of Spearmint and Sibola). Catnip was in England during World War I and went to Dormello stud in Italy in 1918, with her Tracery foal, Nera di Bicci (GB). Andrasch Starke (born 4 January 1974, in Germany) is a jockey in international Thoroughbred horse racing. Starke began racing at age fifteen as an amateur and since turning professional has won the German riding championship six times. He has competed in Canada and the United States and has won races in Dubai, France, Italy, and Singapore. Abary (DE) (foaled 1980, died 2002) was a Thoroughbred racehorse (blk/br.), by Roi Dagobert (FR) out of Antioquia, a half-sister to Acatenango. He was twice winner of the Grosser Preis von Berlin (1983, 1984), trained by Heinz Jentzsch. The owner and breeder was Gestüt Fährhof. Heinz Jentzsch (13 March 192021 April 2012) was the most successful horse trainer in the history of German horse racing. Career During his active years from 1942 to 1999, Jentzsch recorded 4,029 victories. After World War II he came to Cologne to train for the 'Stallgemeinschaft Asterblüte', a group of major German owners of race-horses (Gestüte Schlenderhan, Fährhof, Bona, Charlottenhof, Ittlingen). From 1960 to 1994, he was the most successful coach, winning the German trainer-championship 31 times. He won 21 German trainer-championships in succession from 1967 to 1987.
