Herwen En Aerdt
Herwen en Aerdt is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It existed from 1818 to 1985, when it became part of the new municipality of Rijnwaarden. The municipality covered the villages Herwen and Aerdt, and the surrounding area. Gelderland
Gelderland (), also known as Guelders () in English, is a province of the Netherlands, occupying the centre-east of the country. With a total area of of which is water, it is the largest province of the Netherlands by land area, and second by total area. Herwen
Herwen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Zevenaar. Herwen was a separate municipality until 1818, when the area was divided between the new municipality of Herwen en Aerdt and Pannerden. History The village was first mentioned in the 1st century as Carvio ad Molem. The etymologie in unclear. It was discovered on the tomb of Marcus Mallius, a Roman soldier buried in Herwen. In 897, it was attested as Harauua. Herwen developed along the Oude Rijn near Castle Ter Cluse. The castle was built in 1348 and destroyed in 1598. Aerdt is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is in the municipality of Zevenaar, about 20 km northeast of the city of Nijmegen, close to the German border. Jan van Aken (Herwen en Aerdt, 9 August 1961) is a Dutch writer, who worked in the cultural sector and in automation. He is currently a professor at the Schrijversvakschool in Amsterdam. Theodorus Cornelis Michael Josephus (Theo) van de Klundert (born 1936) is a Dutch economist, and Emeritus Professor of Economics at Tilburg University. Biography Born in Herwen en Aerdt, Van de Klundert received his PhD (cum laude) in 1962 at Tilburg University under supervision of Dirk Bernard Joseph Schouten with a thesis entitled "Groei en inkomensverdeling" (Growth and Income Distribution).
