Michael Degen
Michael Degen (31 January 1928 – 9 April 2022) was a German-Israeli actor, in film and theatre, as well as a theatre director and writer. Early life Born in Chemnitz as the younger son of Jewish parents, Degen survived the Holocaust in Berlin, while his older brother was sent to Palestine via Denmark and Sweden. His father, Jacob Degen, was a language professor and businessman of Russian Jewish descent. On 13 September 1939, Jacob Degen was arrested by the Secret State Police and taken to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Subjected to severe abuse over the weeks that followed, he was released on 2 February 1940 but never recovered from his injuries, dying shortly afterward. To survive, Michael and his mother, Anna, hid in a Berlin allotment until the end of the war. In 1946, Degen appeared on stage for the first time and received his education through a scholarship at the acting school of the Deutsches Theater in East Berlin. Volker Lechtenbrink (18 August 1944 – 22 November 2021) was a German actor on stage, in film and television, a singer-songwriter, dubbing artist, stage director and theatre manager. He played in the anti-war movie '' The Bridge'' in 1959 at age 14. He appeared in popular television series including '' Der Kommissar'', '' Der Alte'' and ''Tatort''. Lechtenbrink was stage director at the Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg, and intendant of the Bad Hersfelder Festspiele. Bad Hersfelder Festspiele
The Bad Hersfelder Festspiele is a German theatre festival in Bad Hersfeld, Hesse. The ''Bad Hersfelder Festspiele'' have been staged since 1951. The Festival The ''Bad Hersfeld Festival'' takes place every year from mid-June to early August in the German town of Bad Hersfeld. It is known as the ''Salzburg of the North''. Theatrical pieces and musicals are performed on the 1,400 m² stage in the ''Stiftsruine Bad Hersfeld''. There is padded seating for 1636 spectators. The mobile roof above the auditorium of the monastery ruins makes performances in all weather conditions possible — visitors always sit in the dry. Comedy plays are performed on an outdoor stage in the courtyard of the ''Eichhof Castle''. At the Festival the Hersfeld-Preis and an audience prize are awarded annually. Hannelore Emilie Käte Grete Schroth (; 10 January 1922 – 7 July 1987) was a German film, stage, and television actress whose career spanned over five decades. Career Born in Berlin in 1922, she was the daughter of popular stage and film actors Heinrich Schroth and Käthe Haack. Her older half-brother was actor and film director Carl-Heinz Schroth (1902–1989), who was the product of Schroth's father's earlier marriage to Else Ruttersheim. She is the daughter of actor Wolfgang Kieling and actress Gisela Uhlen, niece to German actor Max Schreck of ''Nosferatu'' fame.
