Herrmannsberg (North Palatine Uplands)
The Herrmannsberg is a hill, 536 metres hill, in the county of Kusel in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is part of the North Palatine Uplands. In the southeast it is adjoined by the Bornberg. Nearby villages are the "Herrmannsberg communities" of Welchweiler, Elzweiler and Horschbach as well as Hinzweiler, Oberweiler im Tal and Eßweiler. North Palatine Uplands
The North Palatine Uplands (german: Nordpfälzer Bergland), sometimes shortened to Palatine Uplands (''Pfälzer Bergland''), is a low mountain range and landscape unit in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and belongs mainly to the Palatinate region. It is part of the Saar-Nahe Uplands. Geography Location The North Palatine Uplands lie – roughly stated – between St. Wendel in the state of Saarland to the west and three towns belonging to Rhineland-Palatinate: Alzey to the east, Kaiserslautern to the south and Bad Kreuznach to the north, although these towns are not actually within the region itself. The North Palatine Uplands thus links the landscapes of the Palatine Forest, Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, Naheland and Rheinhessen. To the northwest its boundary with Naheland is not always clear. Kusel (district)
Kusel () is a district (''Kreis'') in the south of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north-west clockwise) Birkenfeld, Bad Kreuznach, Donnersbergkreis, Kaiserslautern, Saarpfalz and Sankt Wendel (the last two belonging to the state of Saarland). History The district of Kusel was created at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1939 it was renamed as ''Landkreis Kusel''. The boundary was altered slightly as part of the communal reform of 1969/72 with some parts of the district of Birkenfeld being added to Kusel. Geography The district of Kusel lies in the North Palatine Uplands (''Nordpfälzer Bergland''), to the north of the industrial areas of the Saarland. The largest rivers are the Lauter (also called the Waldlauter, to distinguish it from other rivers in German-speaking Europe named Lauter) and the Glan. Bornberg (Palatinate)
The Bornberg is a 520-metre-high hill in the county of Kusel in the North Palatine Uplands in Germany. The Bornberg has 2 summits: the ''Kiefernkopf'' and ''Trautmannsberg''. In the northwest it is adjoined by the Herrmannsberg. To the east flows the Talbach, to the southeast, the Jettenbach and, to the west, the Reichenbach. Nearby villages are Oberweiler im Tal, Eßweiler, Jettenbach and Bosenbach. On the Bornberg is the Schneeweiderhof, a hamlet which is part of Eßweiler. From 1840 several quarries were established on the Bornberg. They were owned from 1914 by Basalt AG, Linz am Rhein and were worked until 1970. Closely linked with the quarries is the Schneeweiderhof, a hamlet in the parish of Eßweiler, where many of the quarrymen lived. In 1924 a worker's settlement, the ''Kolonie'', was built at Schneeweiderhof which still exists today. Between 1952 and 1965 it even had its own school. Welchweiler
Welchweiler is an ''Ortsgemeinde'' – a municipality belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'', a kind of collective municipality – in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It belongs to the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' of Kusel-Altenglan, whose seat is in Kusel. Geography Location The municipality lies on the west side of the 536-metre-high Herrmannsberg in the Western Palatinate. The village's elevation is some 300 m above sea level and it lies on a small stream called the Welchbach, which runs down into the Sachsbach. From the foot of the Herrmannsberg, Welchweiler is split by a narrow ridge and the valley of the Sachsbach. The Sachsbach empties into the river Glan and is known in its lower reaches as the Horschbach. Elzweiler is an '' Ortsgemeinde'' – a municipality belonging to a '' Verbandsgemeinde'', a kind of collective municipality – in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It belongs to the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' of Kusel-Altenglan, whose seat is in Kusel. Geography Location The municipality lies at the entrance to the Sachsbach valley in the Western Palatinate. The village lies at the foot of the 536 m-high Herrmannsberg at an elevation of some 270 m above sea level on the local thoroughfare. Lying right on this only a few hundred metres away in a side valley is the neighbouring village of Welchweiler. The Sachsbach rises some 2 km up from the village of Elzweiler near the Schneeweiderhof and empties into the river Glan near Glanbrücken. In its lower reaches, the stream bears the name Horschbach. Horschbach is an '' Ortsgemeinde'' – a municipality belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'', a kind of collective municipality – in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Oberweiler im Tal is an ''Ortsgemeinde'' – a municipality belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'', a kind of collective municipality – in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Eßweiler
Eßweiler (, with a short E; also ''Essweiler'') is an ''Ortsgemeinde'' – a municipality belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'', a kind of collective municipality – in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It belongs to the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' Lauterecken-Wolfstein. Geography Location The municipality lies roughly 25 km north of Kaiserslautern, 15 km east of Kusel and 4 km west of Wolfstein at the foot of the Königsberg, a mountain in the North Palatine Uplands. Eßweiler sits at an elevation of 260 to 280 m above sea level, and has also given the dale in which it lies its name, the ''Eßweiler Tal''. Trans-Europe Natural Gas Pipeline
The Trans Europa Naturgas Pipeline (TENP) is a natural gas pipeline which runs from the German-Netherlands border to the German-Swiss border.
