Heroes (comics)
''Heroes'' is a comic about the titular team of fictional superheroes, published by DC Comics and created by Matt Wayne and ChrisCross. Publication history It was originally intended as a replacement in the Milestone Comics line-up for ''Shadow Cabinet (comics), Shadow Cabinet'', which was not selling well. The series took several of the Shadow Cabinet's more appealing members and put them in a more traditional superhero team, along with Static (DC Comics), Static, a popular solo character. As Milestone's overall sales continued to decline, it was changed to a limited series. Milestone canceled the remainder of their ongoing series shortly thereafter. ''Heroes'' was notable for including Donner and Blitzen, an openly lesbian couple in an otherwise "mainstream" superhero series. Static (DC Comics)
Static is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Milestone Comics founders Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle. Static's first appearance was made in ''Static'' #1 (June 1993) in the Modern Age of Comic Books, written by McDuffie and Robert L. Washington III, and illustrated by John Paul Leon. Virgil Ovid Hawkins is a member of a fictional subspecies of humans with superhuman abilities known as metahumans. Not born with his powers, Hawkins' abilities develop after an incident exposes him to a radioactive chemical called "Quantum Juice", turning him into a " Bang Baby" (a sub-category of metahuman). The character drew much inspiration and was in fact designed to represent a modern-era Spider-Man archetype. Matt Wayne
Matt S. Wayne is an American writer of comic books and television. Wayne is probably best known for his work on the animated series '' Niko and the Sword of Light'', ''Cannon Busters'' and '' Ben 10: Omniverse'', and writing and editing comic books for Milestone Media. Biography Wayne was born in Cleveland, Ohio, grew up in Milford, Michigan, and attended the University of Michigan. He was childhood friends with writer Richard Pursel and was high school and college friends with writer Dwayne McDuffie. Comic books Wayne's first comic book credit was for material in ''Marvel Year-In-Review'' #1 for Marvel Comics. He then wrote several stories for Hamilton Comics. When McDuffie co-founded the comic book company Milestone Media, Wayne was hired as an editor on titles such as ''Icon'' and '' Hardware''. ChrisCross
Christopher Williams, who goes by ChrisCross, is a comic book illustrator, known mostly for his stints pencilling Milestone Comics' ''Blood Syndicate'' and ''Heroes'', Marvel Comics' '' Captain Marvel'' and '' Slingers'' and DC Comics' ''Firestorm''. Education and career Williams attended New York City's School of Visual Arts in the early 1990s. While doing so, he caught his big break doing work for the DC Comics imprint, Milestone Comics, which sought to publish a line of comics aimed at attracting a more multicultural audience. He has also worked on other series such as ''Firestorm'' and '' The Outsiders'' for DC comics. Milestone Comics
Milestone Media is a company best known for creating Milestone Comics, which were published and distributed by DC Comics and the ''Static Shock'' animated series. It was founded in 1993 by a coalition of African-American artists and writers, consisting of Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis and Derek T. Dingle. The founders felt that minorities were severely underrepresented in American comics and wished to address this. History Development Christopher Priest participated in the early planning stages of Milestone Media, and was originally slated to become the editor-in-chief of the new company, but left the endeavor for personal reasons before any of Milestone's titles were published. The Shadow Cabinet is a superhero team created by Milestone Comics and published by DC Comics. Pulsar
A pulsar (from ''pulsating radio source'') is a highly magnetized rotating neutron star that emits beams of electromagnetic radiation out of its magnetic poles. This radiation can be observed only when a beam of emission is pointing toward Earth (similar to the way a lighthouse can be seen only when the light is pointed in the direction of an observer), and is responsible for the pulsed appearance of emission.
