Herning Municipality
Herning Municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in western Denmark. The municipality covers an area of and has a population of 89,230 (1 January 2022). Its mayor is Dorte West, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the Town of Herning. History On January 1, 2007, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), Herning municipality was merged with former Aulum-Haderup, Trehøje, and Aaskov municipalities to form the new Herning municipality. Central Denmark Region
The Central Denmark Region ( da, Region Midtjylland), or more directly translated as the Central Jutland Region and sometimes simply Mid Jutland, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform. The reform abolished the traditional counties (''amter'') and replaced them with five new administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the total number of municipalities from 271 to 98. The reform diminished the power of the regional level dramatically in favour of the local level and the national government in Copenhagen. The Central Denmark Region comprises 19 municipalities. 2009 Danish Local Elections
The Danish local elections of 2009 were held on 17 November 2009. Councils were elected in Denmark's 98 List of municipalities of Denmark, municipalities and the Regions of Denmark, five regions. 2468 seats were contested in the municipal elections (2005 Danish local elections, previous election: 2522 seats). 205 seats were contested in the regional elections. Legal basis The electoral details are laid down in the municipal and regional electoral act. The elections are overseen by the Ministry of the Interior. 2005 Danish Local Elections
The Danish local elections of 2005 were held on 15 November 2005. 2522 Municipalities of Denmark, municipal council members were elected in Denmark's 98 List of municipalities of Denmark, municipalities and 205 regional council members in the Regions of Denmark, five regions. Most of these were newly formed municipalities, namely 66 municipalities, that would only begin working from Monday 1 January 2007, as would the newly formed regions, and one municipality, Ærø Municipality, Ærø, which was also part of the Municipalities of Denmark#Municipal Reform of 2007, reform, which was allowed by the government to commence work for the first time already Sunday 1 January 2006. Danish People's Party
The Danish People's Party ( da, Dansk Folkeparti, DPP/DF) is a nationalist and right-wing populist political party in Denmark. It was formed in 1995 by former members of the Progress Party (FrP). The DPP lent its support to the Venstre– Conservative People's Party coalition government that ruled from the general election of 2001 until the 2011 election defeat. While not part of the cabinet, DPP cooperated closely with the governing coalition on most issues and received support for key political stances in return, to the point that the government was commonly referred to as the "VKO-government" (O being DPP's election symbol). It also provided parliamentary support to Lars Løkke Rasmussen's cabinets from 2016 to 2019, again without participating in it. The Christian Democrats (Danish: ''Kristendemokraterne'') (KD) are a political party in Denmark. The party was founded in April 1970 as the Christian People's Party (''Kristeligt Folkeparti'') to oppose the liberalization of restrictions on pornography and the legalization of abortion. The party renamed itself to its current name in 2003. Originally, the party was not considered part of the European Christian-democratic tradition, and it was better known as a religious conservative party. The Green Left ( da, Socialistisk Folkeparti, SF) is a democratic socialist political party in Denmark. It was formerly known in English as the Socialist People's Party, the literal translation of its Danish name. History 1959–1969 The SF was founded on 15 February 1959 by Aksel Larsen, a former leader of the Communist Party of Denmark (DKP). Larsen was removed from the ranks of the DKP for his criticism over the Soviet intervention in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Larsen and the new SF sought to form a third way between Denmark's United States-oriented social democracy and Soviet Union–oriented communism, which sought to combine democracy with socialism. The Conservative People's Party ( da, Det Konservative Folkeparti, DKF), also known as The Conservatives () is a conservative centre-right political party in Denmark. The Social Democrats ( da, Socialdemokraterne, ) is a social democratic political party in Denmark. A member of the Party of European Socialists (PES), the Social Democrats have 50 out of 179 members of the Danish parliament (following the latest Danish general election held in 2022), Folketing, and three out of fourteen MEPs elected from Denmark.
