Heritage (Opeth Album)
''Heritage'' is the tenth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. It was released on 13 September 2011 through Roadrunner Records. The album was recorded in early 2011 at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm and produced by Mikael Åkerfeldt, engineered by Janne Hansson, and mixed by Steven Wilson (the first album since 2003 album ''Damnation'' which he worked together with the band, although he was not the producer anymore). It takes on a full-fledged progressive rock sound, something the band had wanted to do for some time. It is a stark contrast to the progressive metal and death metal sounds of their past albums. A critical and commercial success, the album sold 19,000 units in the United States in its debut week, charting at number 19 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The album was their first since 2003's ''Damnation'' not to feature Åkerfeldt's signature death growls. Opeth
Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal/rock band from Stockholm, formed in 1990 by lead vocalist David Isberg. The group has been through several personnel changes, including the replacement of every original member; notably Isberg in 1992. Mikael Åkerfeldt has been Opeth's frontman and primary songwriter since Isberg's departure. Opeth has consistently incorporated progressive, folk, blues, classical, and jazz influences into its usually lengthy compositions, as well as strong influences from death metal, especially in their early works. Many songs include acoustic guitar passages and strong dynamic shifts, as well as death growls. Opeth is also well known for their incorporation of Mellotrons in their work. The band rarely made live appearances supporting their first four albums, but since conducting their first world tour after the 2001 release of ''Blackwater Park'', they have led several major world tours. Christian Grahn (born ''Arne Christian Jääskeläinen''; 12 June 1978), known professionally by his stage name Chris Dangerous, is the drummer of Swedish rock band, The Hives. Biography Grahn began playing drums at age of nine. Growing up in Fagersta, Västmanland, Sweden, he played drums in a local band, Bad Dreams Always, a hardcore punk band. Grahn's father was part of a Finnish cover band called The Sailors, which, according to Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, The Hives' frontman, was "The biggest guitar rock band in Finland at the time." Martín Méndez
Martín Méndez (born April 6, 1978, in Montevideo, Uruguay) is a Uruguayan Swedish bassist of progressive death metal band Opeth and second longest serving member of the band, behind lead vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt. Méndez has been a member of several other bands, including Fifth to Infinity, Proxima and Vinterkrig. Méndez joined Opeth right before the recording of their third album ''My Arms, Your Hearse'' began. However, time conflicts kept him from playing on the album, so the bass lines were recorded by Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt. Martín then learned the bass parts and played bass for the few subsequent live dates done for the album. His first real recording with Opeth was their fourth studio album, '' Still Life''. ''Watershed'' is the ninth full-length studio album by the Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. Released by Roadrunner Records, ''Watershed'' is the first studio album by Opeth to feature guitarist Fredrik Åkesson and drummer Martin Axenrot, who replaced longtime guitarist Peter Lindgren and drummer Martin Lopez. The artwork for the album was made by Travis Smith (who has created the artwork for eight previous Opeth releases) in collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt.
