Here's Dawn
''Here's Dawn'' is an Australian television series which aired 1964 to 1965 on the Nine Network. A half-hour variety series with emphasis on comedy sketches, it was produced in Sydney and starred Dawn Lake. While popular with viewers, it was not well received by critics. Nevertheless, along with ''The Mavis Bramston Show'' and '' Barley Charlie'', it represented an increasing interest by Australian TV stations towards locally produced comedy programming, which had previously been largely neglected. The Nine Network (stylised 9Network, commonly known as Channel Nine or simply Nine) is an Australian commercial free-to-air television network. It is owned by parent company Nine Entertainment and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. From 2017 to 2021, the network's slogan has been "We Are the One". ''The Mavis Bramston Show'' was a weekly Australian television satirical sketch comedy revue series which aired on the Seven Network from 1964 to 1968. Inspired by the British TV satirical revue TV shows of the period (notably ''That Was The Week That Was''), "Mavis Bramston" was the first successful venture in this genre on Australian TV. Barley Charlie
''Barley Charlie'' was an Australian television sitcom which aired in 1964. It was the second television sitcom produced in Australia; being preceded by the 1957-1959 series ''Take That (TV series), Take That'', although that Crawford Productions sitcom had only aired in Melbourne. Some of the creatives went on to be involved in the serial drama ''Undercurrent (Australian TV series), Undercurrent'' (1965). Overview ''Barley Charlie'' aired for 13 episodes, produced by GTV (Australia), GTV-9 and also shown on other stations across Australia. Though short-lived, the series was a ratings success. Take That (TV Series)
''Take That'' was one of the earliest Australian television series. It debuted in late 1957 and ran till March 1959. As was often the case with early Australian television, it aired only on a single station, in this case HSV-7, in Melbourne. Program synopsis and significance ''Take That'' was a slapstick comedy series set in an unruly schoolroom; one of the earliest such series produced for Australian television, and is sometimes considered to be Australia’s first, regularly scheduled sitcom. The series was produced by Crawford Productions, who made several other pioneering 1950s series, like the game show '' Wedding Day'' and the children's show ''Peters Club'' (also featuring Joff Ellen), at the Channel 7 studios in Dorcas Street, South Melbourne, before live audiences.
