Herbie Seneviratne
Richard Herbert Seneviratne (born 5 July 1925 – died 2 March 1998 as si, හර්බි සෙනෙවිරත්න), popularly as Herby Seneviratne, was an actor and filmmaker in Sri Lankan cinema. Personal life Herbert was born on 5 July 1925 in Lihinigiri Palace, Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. His mother was from Subasinghe family of Sandalankawa. He was educated at St. Anne's College, Kurunegala and later from Maris Stella College, Negombo. His elder brother Shanthi Kumar is also a renowned filmmaker and actor in early Sinhala cinema. Shanthi died on 22 February 1967 at the age of 50. In 1954, Herbie married his cousin June and had five children. He died on 2 March 1998 in Kurunegala at the age of 72. Career In early 1940s, Herbie went India and resided in Calcutta. During this period, he studied Buddhism and philosophy Neluwe Sri Gunananda Thero at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi temple. Kurunegala
Kurunegala ( si, කුරුණෑගල, ta, குருணாகல்) is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of the North Western Province and the Kurunegala District. Kurunegala was an ancient royal capital for 50 years, from the end of the 13th century to the start of the 14th century. It is at the junction of several main roads linking to other important parts of the country. It is about from Colombo, from Kandy and from Matale. Deshamanya Matharage Rita Genevieve Fernando, better known by her stage name Latha Walpola ( si, ලතා වල්පොල), is a prominent Sri Lankan vocal artist. It was during when Walpola was a member of a church choir, that she began a career that led to her becoming one of Sri Lanka's premier singers of her day. Today her fans often refer to her as "The Nightingale of Sri Lanka" Personal life Walpola was born on 11 November 1934 in Mt Lavinia Colombo, to Joseph Fernando and Elizabeth Muriel. Jeevarani Kurukulasuriya (born 2 December 1941 as ජීවරාණි කුරුකුලසූරිය) inhala, is an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theater and television. One of the most popular actresses in early Sinhala cinema, she played the main role in Sri Lanka's first Sinhala color film ''Ranmuthu Duwa''. Personal life Jeevarani was born on 2 December 1941 in Aluthgama, Kalutara as the eldest of the family. Her father was Kurukulasuriyage Venus Anthony Fernando. When three years old, Jeevarani used to dance, sing lullabies, poems and do various mimics in front of parents and relatives. Rita Philomina Ratnayake (18 February 1934 – 6 November 2006 රීටා රත්නායක) was an actress in Sri Lankan cinema.
