Herbert Joos
Herbert Joos (; 21 March 1940 – 7 December 2019) was a German jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist, and graphic designer. He made recordings solo and in groups, especially with the Vienna Art Orchestra. In 2017, he received the Jazzpreis Baden-Württemberg for his life's work. Life and works Born in Karlsruhe, Joos learned trumpet first by self-study and then by a private teacher. He studied double bass from 1958, but then turned to flugelhorn, baritone horn, mellophone, and alphorn. Since the mid-1960s, he has been a member of ''Modern Jazz quintet Karlsruhe'', from which the group ''Fourmenonly'' was created (with Wilfried Eichhorn and ). Afterward, he was a member of various modern and free jazz formations (with , Hans Koller, Adelhard Roidinger and among others). Adelhard Roidinger
Adelhard Roidinger (28 November 1941 – 22 April 2022) was an Austrian jazz musician (bass, electronic), composer and computer graphic designer. Life and Works Roidinger, who was from a musician family, learned first piano, violin and guitar. When he was 16, he started to play double bass. From 1960 to 1967, he studied architecture at the Graz University of Technology and studied simultaneously double bass and jazz composing at the University of Music and Performing Arts in this city. Since 1969, Roidinger has played double bass with Joachim Kühn and Eje Thelin and afterwards with Karl Berger and from 1971 to 1975 in Hans Kollers Free Sound. He founded the ''European Jazz Consensus'' with Alan Skidmore, Gerd Dudek and Branislav Lala Kovačev. The 'European Jazz Consensus' recorded also the albums 'Four for Slavia' and ''Memory Rise''. Peter Schindler
Peter Schindler (born 26 April 1960) is a German composer, pianist, keyboardist, organist and author, whose prime special field is musical theatre. Education Peter Schindler was born in Altensteig in the Black Forest in the district of Calw, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Following his talent in music, he early began taking piano lessons and later he began taking organ lessons. From 1973 to 1976 he studied at the School of Church Music in Rottenburg am Neckar. Wolfgang Puschnig
Wolfgang Puschnig (born 21 May 1956 in Klagenfurt, Austria) is an Austrian jazz musician (saxophone, flute, bass clarinet) and composer. Biography After his studies of saxophone and flute at the Vienna Conservatory Puschnig was the founding member of the Vienna Art Orchestra together with Mathias Rüegg in the mid-1970s. Here he was active until 1989. He was also involved in projects with Ernst Jandl involving Lauren Newton. He also played with Hans Koller in the early 1980s, with the quartet 'Air Mail' and 'Saxofour'. Carla Bley brought him into her groups in the mid 1980s. Michel Godard
Michel Godard is a French avant-garde jazz and classical musician. He plays tuba and the predecessor of the tuba, a brass instrument known as the serpent. Career At 18, Godard was a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio-France. He has also been member of the French National Jazz Orchestra and the Arban Chamber Brass quintet, and has played with the Ensemble Musique Vivante, the ancient music Ensemble La Venice and "XVIII-21Musique de Lumieres". Patrick Josef Bebelaar (born 6 March 1971) is a German musician and composer. He is positioned as "inventive pianist between jazz and classical music". In music, a quartet or quartette (, , , , ) is an ensemble of four singers or instrumental performers; or a musical composition for four voices and instruments. Classical String quartet In classical music, one of the most common combinations of four instruments in chamber music is the string quartet. Jazz Trio
A jazz trio is a group of three jazz musicians, often a piano trio comprising a pianist, a double bass player and a drummer. Jazz trios are commonly named after their leader, such as the Bill Evans Trio. Variants and examples Famous examples include the Bill Evans Trio with Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums; and the Vince Guaraldi trio, featuring Fred Marshall and Jerry Granelli. Nat King Cole formed a piano/guitar/bass trio in 1937. This format was also used by Art Tatum, Lennie Tristano, Ahmad Jamal, Vince Guaraldi, and Oscar Peterson. Ack Van Rooyen
Ack van Rooyen (1 January 1930, The Hague – 18 November 2021) was a Dutch jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist. He was the brother of Jerry van Rooyen. Van Rooyen began playing with a military band as a teenager, touring bases in Indonesia. He then studied music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, graduating in 1950, then worked with Ernst van 't Hoff and his brother. He played with The Ramblers in 1955–1957, then moved to France in 1957, where he worked with Aime Barelli, Kenny Clarke, Lucky Thompson, and Barney Wilen. In 1960, he relocated to Germany, playing in a big band at Sender Freies Berlin with his brother, in addition to side work with Hans Koller, Bert Kaempfert, and Åke Persson. Harry Beckett
Harold Winston "Harry" Beckett (30 May 1935 – 22 July 2010) was a British trumpeter and flugelhorn player of Barbadian origin. Biography Born in Bridgetown, Saint Michael, Barbados, Harry Beckett learned to play music in a Salvation Army band. A resident in the UK from 1954, he had an international reputation. He played with Charles Mingus in the 1962 film '' All Night Long''. In the 1960s, he worked and recorded within the band of bass player and composer Graham Collier, retaining the connection over a 16-year period. Beginning in 1970, Beckett led groups of his own, recording for Philips, RCA and Ogun Records among other labels.
