Herbert Feith
Herbert Feith (3 November 1930 – 15 November 2001) was an Australian academic and world leading scholar of Indonesian politics. Background Born in Vienna, Austria in 1930, Feith witnessed oppression of the Jews and witnessed Kristallnacht in 1938 at the age of 7. He came to Australia as a refugee in 1939 with his Austrian Jewish parents, one of a few thousand Jews granted humanitarian visas. He took an undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Melbourne, working with Professor William Macmahon Ball. After graduating, fascinated with Asia and inspired by Molly Bondan, he got a job in Jakarta in at the Indonesian Department of Information and worked from 1951 to 1952 as an Indonesian civil servant on a local salary. The ''Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies'' (BIES) is a peer-reviewed academic journal produced at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. It publishes articles and notes about the Indonesian economy. The BIES has been published three times each year since the first issue was produced in 1965. Putu Oka Sukanta
Putu Oka Sukanta (born 29 July 1939 in Singaraja, Bali, Indonesia) is a versatile Indonesian author of fiction and poetry. He wrote poetry, short stories and novels while still in Bali and after he moved to Yogyakarta and Jakarta. From 1966, during the New Order, he was imprisoned without trial as an alleged member of LEKRA. After his release in 1976, he has come to be known as a writer, journalist and an expert in the field of traditional medicine. Biography Putu Oka Sukanta started writing at age 16. He actively wrote poetry, short stories, novels and children's stories while in his native Bali before moving to Yogyakarta and Jakarta. In 1966, in the crackdown following the 30 September Movement, he was imprisoned in Salemba in Jakarta as an alleged member of LEKRA. Glen Iris is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Boroondara and Stonnington local government areas.
