Herbert McLean Evans
Herbert McLean Evans (September 23, 1882 – March 6, 1971) was an American anatomist and embryologist best known for co-discovering Vitamin E. Education He was born in Modesto, California. In 1908, he obtained his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University. Career Evans became associate professor of anatomy at Johns Hopkins University. Evans moved back to California in 1915 and was made professor of anatomy at the University of California, Berkeley, and held that position until his death. His medical research at Berkeley addressed problems relating to human nutrition, endocrinology, embryology, and histology. In 1918, his research into the number of human chromosomes led him to believe the number to be 48, when most people assumed the number to be much higher. It was only later discovered that the correct figure was 46. Evans had much greater success however with hormones extracted from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. Herbert Evans (politician)
Herbert Evans (1868 – 7 October 1931) was a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom. He contested the 1929 general election in the Conservative safe seat of Maldon in Essex, where the Conservative vote fell but the gains were made by the Liberal candidate. He was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Gateshead at a by-election in June 1931, following the death of the Labour MP Sir James Melville. Herbert Evans (16 April 1882 – 10 February 1952) was an English film actor. He appeared in over 180 films between 1916 and 1952. Biography Evans started his acting career in 1914 at the World Film Company in Fort Lee, New Jersey. His performances include the Earl of Glenheather Castle in The Three Stooges comedy ''The Hot Scots'' and its remake '' Scotched in Scotland'', the well-meaning but clueless butler Wilkes in ''Vagabond Loafers’’ and in the ''Our Gang'' short ''Shrimps for a Day''. In addition to his work in short subjects, Evans appeared—often uncredited—in such films as ''Casablanca'', '' Strangers on a Train'', '' Annie Get Your Gun'' and ''Song of the Thin Man''. He also had bit roles in the Shirley Temple vehicles ''Curly Top'' and ''Wee Willie Winkie''. Evans died on 10 February 1952 shortly after filming for '' The Brigand'' was completed. The Solicitor-General (or Solicitor General) is the second law officer of state in New Zealand. The Solicitor-General is also head of the Crown Law Office, that comprises lawyers employed to represent the Attorney-General in court proceedings in New Zealand. The current Solicitor-General is Una Jagose. Under section 9A of the Constitution Act 1986 the Solicitor-General can exercise almost all of the statutory functions conferred on the Attorney-General. Herbie Evans
Herbie Price Evans (30 August 1894 – 19 November 1982) was a Welsh professional footballer. Career Evans was born in Llandaff, Cardiff. He played for Cardiff Corinthians when Cardiff City signed him in 1920 as part of the club's first season in the English Football League. Despite his signing with the club, he remained an amateur player until late into his spell, winning a Wales amateur cap when he played against England in 1922. Later that year, he also made his debut for the senior side on 4 February in a 2–1 win over Scotland. He eventually turned professional for the club but suffered a broken leg shortly after, and a long recovery kept him out of league football for nearly two years. When he returned, he found his place taken by Harry Wake, and he left to join Tranmere Rovers in 1926, along with Alfie Hagan. However, he broke his other leg a year later and was forced to retire.
