Herbie Evans
Herbie Price Evans (30 August 1894 – 19 November 1982) was a Welsh professional footballer. Career Evans was born in Llandaff, Cardiff. He played for Cardiff Corinthians when Cardiff City signed him in 1920 as part of the club's first season in the English Football League. Despite his signing with the club, he remained an amateur player until late into his spell, winning a Wales amateur cap when he played against England in 1922. Later that year, he also made his debut for the senior side on 4 February in a 2–1 win over Scotland. He eventually turned professional for the club but suffered a broken leg shortly after, and a long recovery kept him out of league football for nearly two years. When he returned, he found his place taken by Harry Wake, and he left to join Tranmere Rovers in 1926, along with Alfie Hagan. However, he broke his other leg a year later and was forced to retire. Llandaff
Llandaff (; cy, Llandaf ; from 'church' and '' Taf'') is a district, community and coterminous electoral ward in the north of Cardiff, capital of Wales. It was incorporated into the city in 1922. It is the seat of the Bishop of Llandaff, whose diocese within the Church in Wales covers the most populous area of Wales. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Glamorgan County Cricket Club
Glamorgan County Cricket Club ( cy, Criced Morgannwg) is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Glamorgan ( cy, Morgannwg). Founded in 1888, Glamorgan held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship before the First World War. In 1921, the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to first-class status, subsequently playing in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England and Wales. Glamorgan is the only Welsh first-class cricket club. They have won the English County Championship competition in 1948, 1969 and 1997. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Alfie Hagan
Alfred Hagan (10 November 1895 – 1980) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward. Early life Hagan was born in Usworth and worked at the colliery in the town. He served as a private in the Northumberland Fusiliers during the First World War. Career After playing local football for Washington Colliery, Hagan signed for Newcastle United in 1919. He moved to Cardiff City in 1923 but did not make his debut for the club until 26 December of that year, playing in a 3–1 victory over Sheffield United. He remained with the club for three seasons but struggled to break into the first team. He eventually joined Tranmere Rovers in 1926, along with Herbie Evans, where he finished his professional career.
