Henry Wallace Atkinson
Henry Wallace Atkinson (22 April 1866 – 26 April 1938) was an architect in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Many of his works are now heritage-listed. Early life Henry Wallace Atkinson was born on 22 April 1866 in Brisbane, the son of Paul Cole Atkinson from Cork, Ireland and his wife Jane (née Creech). Having finished school, he was one of the first intake of students into the Brisbane Technical College in 1883. He was a keen athlete and was Queensland champion cyclist in 1887. He married Martha Jane Hipwood, daughter of James Hipwood (Mayor of Brisbane) on 30 April 1891 at St Philips Church of England at Thompson Estate (now Annerley). Career He was articled to architect Christian Waagepetersen and then worked as a draughtsman in the office of the Queensland Colonial Architect from 1882 to 1890. Atkinson and Conrad was an architectural partnership in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia between Henry Wallace Atkinson and Arnold Henry Conrad. Many of their works are now heritage-listed. History In 1889, while working as a draughtsman in the office of the Queensland Colonial Architect, Henry Atkinson submitted an entry into a competition for a new Head Fire Station on the corner of Ann Street, Brisbane, Ann and Edward Street, Brisbane, Edward Streets in Brisbane. Having won the competition, he left the Queensland Public Service and started his own private practice. The Head Fire Station was completed in December 1890 but has since been demolished. However, his architectural practice has continued through a series of partnerships. In 1907, he took Charles McLay as his partner creating Atkinson and McLay. Taabinga Homestead
Taabinga Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at 7 Old Taabinga Road, Haly Creek, South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1846 to 1864. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. The homestead is the main building of the 318 acre Taabinga Station, and now operates as a homestay, providing bed and breakfast accommodation to tourists, as well as regular farm tours. History The Taabinga run was originally taken up by the Haly brothers in the 1840s and the main residence was developed during the 1840s and 1850s. Most of the outbuildings on the homestead site were built during the 1890s and early 1900s when Arthur Youngman was owner of the property. The Ithaca Town Council Chambers is a heritage-listed former town hall of the former local government area of the Town of Ithaca, and now a community centre in Paddington, Queensland, Paddington, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Coorparoo Fire Station
Coorparoo Fire Station is a heritage-listed former fire station at 219 Cavendish Road, Coorparoo, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Atkinson & Conrad and built in 1935. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 11 June 2003. History From about 1931, local progression associations led by C. Beak and W. J. Smout began to lobby to have a fire station established in their area. However, the fire board did not have the funds to establish a new station until March 1935 when they borrowed from the Commonwealth Bank. The fire station was opened on Thursday 26 September 1935 by John Innes Brown, Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Logan.
