Henry Seymour (New Zealand Politician)
Henry Seymour (6 December 1796 – 31 March 1883) was one of the earliest settlers in Nelson, New Zealand, where he was a trader and land speculator. He was a member of the Legislative Council of New Munster Province from 1849, and was appointed to the new Legislative Council in 1853 until his resignation in 1860. He returned to England and died in Worcestershire. Life Seymour first comes to notice as Steward of the Public Rooms in Teignmouth (new public rooms had been opened there in 1826, replacing an earlier establishment of 1796), where he organized events such as regattas and Christmas balls. Evidently building on this experience, in 1830 he became the first lessee of the Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, living in a house in nearby Prestbury. Henry Seymour (16th-century MP)
Sir Henry Seymour (c. 1503 – 5 April 1578) was an English landowner and MP, the brother of Jane Seymour, queen consort of Henry VIII, and consequently uncle to Edward VI. He was created a Knight of the Bath after his nephew's coronation. Family Sir Henry Seymour was born around 1503, probably at Wulfhall, Wiltshire. He was the third son of Sir John Seymour (c.1474 – 21 December 1536.) and Margery Wentworth (c. 1478 – 18 October 1550). His family rose to prominence following his sister Jane's marriage to the King in 1536. Henry Seymour (Langley)
Henry Seymour of Langley (1612 – 9 March 1686), was an English courtier who supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War and after the Restoration sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1681. Biography Seymour was the second son of Sir Edward Seymour, and Dorothy, daughter of Sir Henry Killigrew of Lothbury, Cornwall. He was a Page of Honour to Queen Henrietta Maria and made Groom of the Bedchamber to Charles, Prince of Wales in 1638. Upon the outbreak of the English Civil War Seymour joined the Royalist army, serving under his kinsman William, Marquess of Hertford. He accompanied the Marquess into Somerset and was at Battle of Sherburn when with only two troops of horse (cavalry) and 400-foot, the Royalists withstood the whole force of the William, Earl of Bedford, consisting of above 7,000-foot supported by horse and artillery. Henry Seymour (died 1728)
Henry Seymour later Portman (c. 1637–1728), of Orchard Portman, Somerset, was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of England and then Great Britain almost continually between 1679 and 1715. Early life Seymour was the fifth son of Sir Edward Seymour, 3rd Baronet. He joined the Army and was an ensign in the garrison at Guernsey by 1662, a lieutenant of foot in 1669 and captain in the Duke of Buckingham's Foot from 1672 to 1673. He married as his first wife Penelope Haslewood, daughter of Sir William Haslewood of Maidwell, Northamptonshire. Political career Seymour was returned unopposed as Member (MP) for St Mawes in March 1679 and was returned again in elections in October 1679, 1681, 1685 and 1689. Henry Seymour (21 October 1729 – 14 April 1807) was a British politician. Life Seymour was the eldest son of Francis Seymour, of Sherborne, Dorset. He was educated at New College. In January 1746/7, he inherited the estate of East Knoyle from his uncle, William. Henry Seymour (Knoyle)
Henry Seymour MP, JP (10 November 1776 – 27 November 1849), of Knoyle House, East Knoyle, Wiltshire, of Trent, and of Northbrook, was a British Tory politician. He was the only son of Henry Seymour, of Redland Court, Gloucestershire and his second wife, the Comtesse de Panthou. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the borough of Taunton at the 1826 general election, having contested the borough unsuccessfully in 1820, and held the seat until he stood down at the 1830 general election. Henry (Harry) Jocelyn Seymour, 9th Marquess of Hertford DL (born 6 July 1958) is a British peer, the son of Hugh Seymour, 8th Marquess of Hertford. He was educated at Harrow School and the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. He currently resides at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire, where he has been in charge of the estate since 1991. He was a member of the House of Lords from 1997 to 1999 and is a Deputy Lieutenant of Warwickshire. Family life In 1990, he married Brazilian-born Beatriz Karam. Henry Seymour, Lord Beauchamp
Henry Seymour, Lord Beauchamp (c. 1626 – 14 March 1654) was an English nobleman, third son of William Seymour, 2nd Duke of Somerset.''The Complete Peerage'', vol. 12, 1953, "Somerset", p. 74. He had two elder brothers, but they both died unmarried in their twenties, so that in 1646, when he was about twenty, Henry became heir to his father and took his courtesy title of Lord Beauchamp. On 28 June 1648, he married Mary Capell at Hadham Parva in Hertfordshire; they had one son and one daughter. Like his father, he was a Cavalier, for which he was imprisoned in the Tower of London during the Commonwealth, 9 April to 9 September 1651, being released on £10,000 bond. He died 14 March 1654 and was buried at Bedwyn Magna 30 March, having died at "Tilsy" according to the burial record in the parish register. Vice-Admiral Lord Henry Seymour (1540–1588) was an English naval commander and Admiral of the Narrow Seas during the Elizabethan Age. The younger son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset by his second wife Anne Stanhope, he married Lady Joan (or Jane) Percy, daughter of Thomas Percy, 7th Earl of Northumberland. Lord Henry Seymour (15 December 1746 – 5 February 1830) was a British politician, the second son of Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Marquess of Hertford. He was known as Hon. Henry Seymour-Conway until 1793, when his father was created a marquess; he then became Lord Henry Seymour-Conway, but dropped the surname of Conway after his father's death in 1794. Seymour-Conway was educated at Eton and Hertford College, Oxford, and took his MA from Merton College in 1767. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1766 as Member for Coventry. He generally, though not always, voted with his uncle and namesake Henry Seymour Conway. After the 1768 election, when he and Andrew Archer defeated a challenge by Walter Waring, he was a consistent supporter of the Grafton and then the North governments. Sir Henry Seymour, 1st Baronet (20 October 1674 – April 1714), of Langley, Buckinghamshire, was an English landowner and Tory politician who sat in the English House of Commons, English and British House of Commons from 1699 to 1713.
