Lord Henry Seymour (naval Commander)
Vice-Admiral Lord Henry Seymour (1540–1588) was an English naval commander and Admiral of the Narrow Seas during the Elizabethan Age. The younger son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset by his second wife Anne Stanhope, he married Lady Joan (or Jane) Percy, daughter of Thomas Percy, 7th Earl of Northumberland. In 1588, he was appointed Admiral of the Narrow Seas and took command of HMS ''Rainbow'' and the Squadron of ships that took part in the Battle of Gravelines against the Spanish Armada in 1588. Berry Pomeroy
Berry Pomeroy is a village and civil parish in the South Hams district of Devon, England, east of the town of Totnes. The parish is surrounded clockwise from the north by the parishes of Ipplepen, Marldon, Torbay (unitary authority), Stoke Gabriel, Ashprington, Totnes, and Littlehempston. In 2001 its population was 973, down from 1193 in 1901. The main road access is via the A385 road between Paignton and Totnes that runs through the parish, south of the village. History Berry Pomeroy was the centre of the large Feudal Barony of Berry Pomeroy, which was held at the time of the Domesday Book (1086) by Ralph de Pomeroy. The Pomeroy family retained the barony until 1547. William of Orange is said to have held his first parliament at Parliament Cottage in Longcombe within the parish, after landing at Brixham at the start of the Glorious Revolution in November 1688. Elizabeth Bourchier (before 1473 – 8 August 1557) was an English noblewoman. She was, by her third husband, Sir Edward Stanhope, the mother of Anne Stanhope, wife of the Protector Somerset. Her fourth husband was the courtier Sir Richard Page. She died in 1557, and was buried at Clerkenwell. Sir John Say (born 1415 in Podington, Bedfordshire, England, died 12 April 1478) was an English courtier, MP and Speaker of the House of Commons. Life He was the son of John Say (born before 1445) and his wife Maud. His brother, aster William Say, was Dean of the Chapel Royal, Master of the Hospital of St Anthony, London and Dean of St Paul’s. Sir John owned land at Baas, Broxbourne, Little Berkhamsted and Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, and Lawford, Essex Sir John Say trained as a lawyer and became a King's Serjeant, Coroner of the Marshalsea, Yeoman of the Chamber and Crown, Keeper of Westminster Palace, Squire of the Body and Privy Councillor. Wentworth was a great-grandfather of Jane Seymour, third wife of King Henry VIII, and was beheaded at Middleham, Yorkshire.
