Henry Milford
Henry John Bede Milford was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of both the New South Wales Legislative Assembly and the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life and career Born in England in 1832 or 1833, Milford moved to Sydney, Australia with his family in 1843. He became an articled clerk before being admitted as a solicitor in 1855. He practised in Sydney until 1867. He was married to Catherine Charlotte Dick and had three sons and a daughter. Politics He represented the electoral district of Braidwood in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 3 February 1864 to 10 November 1864. He represented the electoral district of Rockhampton from 6 December 1869 to 7 June 1870. The Northern Miner (Queensland)
''The Northern Miner'' is an online newspaper published in Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia. History ''The Northern Miner'' was first established in 1872 by James Smith Reid. Reid established the paper only eight months after the discovery of gold in the regional Queensland town Charters Towers. In 1876 Reid sold the paper to Thadeus O'Kane. As the owner and editor of the Northern Miner, O’Kane devoted himself and the paper to improving the lives of the miners working in Charters Towers. Of the five newspapers published in the goldfields ''The Northern Miner'' was the only one to survive the downturn in gold mining. The paper is still being published today from the same Gill Street address it has been at since 1878. ''The Morning Bulletin'' is an online newspaper servicing the city of Rockhampton and the surrounding areas of Central Queensland, Australia. From 1861 to 2020, ''The Morning Bulletin'' was published as a print edition, before then becoming an exclusively online newspaper. The final print edition was published on 27 June 2020. History The first issue of ''The Bulletin'' was launched on 9 July 1861. It is the second oldest business in Rockhampton, the oldest being the Criterion Hotel which was established in October 1860. The founder and original owner, William Hitchcock Buzacott (1831–1880, brother of Charles Hardie Buzacott), brought the press and equipment from Sydney in 1861 where he operated a small weekly paper. The Rockhampton colonial by-election, 1869 was a by-election held on 6 December 1869 in the electoral district of Rockhampton for the Queensland Legislative Assembly. History On 19 November 1869, Archibald Archer, member for Rockhampton, resigned. Henry Milford won the resulting by-election on 6 December 1869, but did not take his seat in parliament.
