Henry Jordan (politician)
Henry Jordan (19 November 1818 – 30 June 1890) was a dentist and member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Secretary for Public Lands 1887 to 1888. Jordan was born in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England, the son of John Jordan, a Wesleyan minister from Devonshire stock, and his wife Elizabeth, ''née'' Jeffries. Jordan was educated by his father, entered Kingsford College, Bristol, and then studied at London Institution for Diseases of the Teeth. Jordan built up a lucrative dental practice in Derby. He published ''Practical observations on the Teeth'' (London, 1851) which ran to two editions and was highly praised in England and America; it later won him election to the Odontological Society of Great Britain. In February 1856 Jordan arrived in Queensland and in 1859 he married Sarah Elizabeth Hopkins Turner. May Jordan McConnel
Mary Emma "May" Jordan McConnel (6 September 1860 – 28 April 1929) was an Australian trade unionist and suffragist. She was the first paid female trade union organiser in Queensland. Life McConnel née Jordan was born on 6 September 1860 at George Street, Brisbane, the daughter of politician Henry Jordan and his wife, Elizabeth (née Turner). She trained as a teacher and nurse. She was secretary of the Tailoresses' Union, was heavily involved in the formation of the Brisbane Women's Union, treasurer of the Women's Equal Franchise Association, and inaugural general secretary of the women's section of the Australian Labour Federation. It was for the Labour Federation that she would begin working for as an organiser in 1890. In March 1890, she became engaged to David Rose McConnel of Cressbook Station (first Director of the Central Technical College in Brisbane). Logan City
Logan City is a local government area situated within the south of the Brisbane metropolitan area in South East Queensland, Australia. Situated between the City of Brisbane to the north and the City of Gold Coast to the south, the City also borders the Scenic Rim Region, the City of Ipswich, and Redland City LGAs. Waterford West is a suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Waterford West had a population of 6,431 people. Geography The eastern boundary and part of the southern boundary follow the course of the Logan River. The suburb is home to Marsden State High School in the west. It has a shopping centre called Waterford Plaza close to a road bridge across the Logan. Around this area the main roads, Kingston Road and Loganlea Road intersect. The area currently has some retail development as well as historical significance to Logan City. The centre adjoins a large lagoon known as Tygum Lagoon. Logan River
The Logan River ( Yugambeh: ''Dugulumba'') is a perennial river located in the Scenic Rim, Logan and Gold Coast local government areas of the South East region of Queensland, Australia. The -long river is one of the dominant waterways in South East Queensland that drains the southern ranges of the Scenic Rim and empties into Moreton Bay after navigating the City of Logan, a major suburban centre located south of Brisbane. The catchment is dominated by urban and agricultural land use. Near the river mouth are mangrove forests and a number of aquaculture farms. Charles Boydell Dutton (16 August 1834 – 5 February 1904), was pastoralist and politician in colonial Queensland. Early life Dutton was born in Singleton, New South Wales, the son of Henry Pelerin Dutton (c. 1803 – 30 January 1870), a Hunter River squatter, and his wife Sophia Hume Dutton, ''née'' Bell (c. 1804 – 18 August 1889). Politics Dutton was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Leichhardt from 23 August 1883 to 5 May 1888 and Secretary for Lands from 13 November 1883 to 30 August 1887; Secretary for Works and Mines from the latter date till 12 December 1887; and from that date till 13 June 1888 Secretary for Railways in the First Griffith Ministry. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia.
