Henry B. Nevins Incorporated was wooden-hull yacht builder in City Island, New York founded in 1907 by Henry B. Nevins. City Island, New York
City Island is a neighborhood in the northeastern Bronx in New York City, located on an island of the same name approximately long by wide. City Island is located at the extreme western end of Long Island Sound, south of Pelham Bay and east of Eastchester Bay. At one time the island was incorporated within the boundaries of Pelham, Westchester County, New York, but the island is now part of New York City. City Island is part of the Pelham Islands, a group of islands that once belonged to Thomas Pell. The body of water between City Island and the even smaller, uninhabited Hart Island to the east is known as City Island Harbor. The small island adjacent to the northeast is High Island. 1958 America's Cup
The 1958 America's Cup marked the first Cup match sailed in 12-metre class yachts. Twenty years had passed since the last Cup match, held between immense Universal Rule J-class yachts in 1937 besides World War II, and the New York Yacht Club sought a more affordable alternative to restart interest in the Cup. In 1956 Henry Sears led an effort advancing class yachts. The Royal Yacht Squadron of Great Britain agreed to challenge with a new 12-metre, ''Sceptre''. The New York Yacht Club defended with theirs, ''Columbia'', winning the Cup in a four-race sweep. Defender Series Four yachts competed in a summer long regatta to determine which the NYYC would name as defender, ''Columbia'' (US-16), a new Olin Stephens boat, ''Weatherly'' (US-17), ''Easterner'' (US-18), and the Olin Stephens designed ''Vim'' (US-15) from 1939. USS ''Tamarack'' (SP-561) was a United States Navy patrol vessel in commission from 1917 to 1919. ''Tamarack'' was built as a private motor yacht of the same name by Nevins Shipyard at City Island in the Bronx, New York, in 1915 to a design by the firm of Swasey, Raymond, and Page. ''Brilliant'' is a schooner located at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut, United States. ''Brilliant'' was built in 1932 on City Island, Bronx, by Henry B. Nevins Yard to a design by Olin Stephens of Sparkman & Stephens for Walter Barnum. ''Brilliant'' was built as an ocean racing yacht, and on her maiden voyage crossed the Atlantic Ocean in just over 15 days, 1 hour and 23 minutes, a record for a sailing yacht of her size. ''Brilliant'' ran from Nantucket Lightship to Bishop Rock Light, England. According to the Sparkman & Stephens blog, ''Brilliant'' was designed to a "rigorous" standard.
