Bob Hendley
Charles Robert Hendley (born April 30, 1939) is a retired American professional baseball player. A left-handed pitcher, he appeared in all or parts of seven seasons in Major League Baseball for the Milwaukee Braves (1961–1963), San Francisco Giants (1964–1965), Chicago Cubs (1965–1967) and New York Mets (1967). Back-to-back 1965 battles with Koufax Hendley's career was hampered by elbow miseries. But he is perhaps best remembered for hooking up with Baseball Hall of Fame left-hander Sandy Koufax of the Los Angeles Dodgers for two classic pitchers' duels while Hendley was a member of the 1965 Cubs. On September 9 at Dodger Stadium, Hendley allowed only one hit, but Koufax threw a perfect game and defeated Hendley, 1–0. The one run Hendley gave up came in the fifth inning and was unearned. Daisy Hendley Gold
Daisy Mabel Hendley Gold (October 26, 1893 – April 7, 1975) was an American writer, poet, and journalist. She worked for the ''Statesville Record & Landmark'' and '' The Greenville Piedmont'' before becoming the managing editor of the ''Wilson Times'' in 1920. She later married John Daniel Gold, the editor and publisher of the ''Wilson Times''. Gold authored a book of poetry, ''Tides of Life'', in 1927 and a novel, ''It Was Forever'', in 1940. She also wrote a history book titled ''A Town Named Wilson'' that was never published. Early life and education Gold was born on October 26, 1893 in Iredell County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Alvis Francis Hendley and his second wife, Celeste Rimmer Norris. She was of Scotch-Irish, French, and English descent. Gold attended local schools before studying at the North Carolina State Normal and Industrial College in Greensboro. History Hendley was named by the railroad in 1887 when they built a new line to a small settlement called Lyndon that had existed since the 1870s. A post office was established in Hendley in 1888 and, while no longer in a standalone building, remains in operation within the small convenience store located on the southeast corner of Grant Avenue and 3rd Street. Fiona Hendley (born 1959) is a British actress and latterly Christian speaker, married to the former Manfred Mann singer and actor Paul Jones. Career Stage She has appeared in a number of musical theatre productions. In 1982, she played Jenny Driver in ''A Beggar's Opera'' at the National Theatre having been part of the original cast of its highly successful production of ''Guys and Dolls''.
