''Hemipsilichthys nimius'' is a species of catfish belonging to the family Loricariidae. The species is only known from two small rivers in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil: the Perequê-Áçu and the Taquari. Taquari River (Rio De Janeiro)
The Taquari River ( pt, Rio Taquari) is a river in the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil. It is a left tributary of the Paraguay River. The town of Coxim is situated on the Taquari. The Taquari River is considered the most degraded river in the pantanal basin of Mato Grosso do Sul. The headwaters of the river are protected by the Nascentes do Rio Taquari State Park, created in 1999. The Taquari river complex has over recent decades been subject to various course changes and avulsions, partly through faults and crevasses in natural levees. Loricariidae
The Loricariidae is the largest family of catfish (order Siluriformes), with 92 genera and just over 680 species. Loricariids originate from freshwater habitats of Costa Rica, Panama, and tropical and subtropical South America. These fish are noted for the bony plates covering their bodies and their suckermouths. Several genera are sold as " plecos", notably the suckermouth catfish, ''Hypostomus plecostomus'', and are popular as aquarium fish.
