Hemal Trivedi
Hemal Trivedi is an Indian documentary film director, editor and producer. She is best known for her work on the documentaries ''Shabeena's Quest'', and ''Among the Believers''. Life and career Hemal was born and raised in Maharashtra, India. She holds an MBA in Marketing from SVKM's NMIMS and an MFA from the University of Florida. In 2015, Hemal co-directed the feature documentary, ''Among the Believers'', along with Mohammed Ali Naqvi, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The Central Board of Film Censors (CFBC) banned, ''Among the Believers'', from being screened in Pakistan, giving the reason that it "projects the negative image of Pakistan in the context of ongoing fight against extremism terrorism." Both Hemal and co-director Mohammed Ali Naqvi received death threats after the release of the film, forcing them to go into hiding for a period of time. Chagrin Documentary Film Festival
Chagrin Documentary Film Festival is an annual documentary film festival based in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. The festival debuted in 2010, with 93 films showing in venues throughout the village. That year, the festival had an attendance of 1,800. By the 2015 festival, that number had grown to almost 7,000, while the number of films shrank to less than 70. The festival currently has an all-volunteer staff. History The festival's director is Mary Ann Quinn Ponce, who founded the festival in 2010 in honor of her son, filmmaker David Ponce. The festival is operated by Fevered Dreams Productions. Fevered Dreams Productions was founded by Chagrin Falls High School Alumnus and filmmaker David Ponce as his film production company. The Cinema Eye Honors are awards recognizing excellence in nonfiction or documentary filmmaking and include awards for the disciplines of directing, producing, cinematography and editing. The awards are presented each January in New York and have been held since 2011 at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens. Cinema Eye was created to celebrate artistic craft in nonfiction filmmaking, addressing a perceived imbalance in the field where awards were given for social impact or importance of topic rather than artistic excellence. International Film Festival And Forum On Human Rights
The International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) is one of the most important international events dedicated to cinema and human rights, located in the heart of Geneva, "international capital of human rights". The inspiration and impetus behind the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights came from human rights defenders active in NGO's, filmmakers, media representatives and the University of Geneva. The FIFDH coincides with the UN Human Rights Council's main session. This simultaneous event makes the Festival a Free Platform for discussion and debates on a wide variety of topics concerning human rights.
