''Hello, Hello Brazil!'' (Portuguese: ''Allô, Allô, Brasil!'') is a 1935 Brazilian musical film directed by Wallace Downey, Alberto Ribeiro and João de Barro. It stars Carmen Miranda and Adhemar Gonzaga; the latter also produced the film. The screenplay was written by Alberto Ribeiro and João de Barro. Production Wallace Downey began his career producing successful musical films for Americans with established artists from Brazilian radio. Carmen Miranda, star of this 1935 film, was one such star. A co-production between Waldown Filmes and Cinédia, ''Allô, Allô, Brasil!'' presented a multitude of singers, comedians and radio presenters, such as vocalists Francisco Alves and Mário Reis. A close tie-in with the radio world manifested in this films storyline. Wallace Downey
Wallace Downey (New York City, May 14, 1902 – New York City, January 29, 1978) was an American film producer and director. In 1928 Wallace Downey, an executive of Columbia Records, was sent to South America to install a Brazilian branch for his company. He quickly realized Brazil was an entertainment hot bed for potential markets in records and films. Aurora Miranda
Aurora Miranda da Cunha Richaid (20 April 1915 – 22 December 2005) was a Brazilian singer and actress. She began her career at the age of 18 in 1933. Miranda appeared in several films, including ''The Three Caballeros'', where she danced with Donald Duck and José Carioca, singing the song, " Os Quindins de Yayá". Her sisters were Carmen Miranda and Cecilia Miranda. Career Aurora Miranda had a successful career in Brazil and the US, perhaps overshadowed by that of her sister, Carmen Miranda. Cinédia (originally called the Cinearte studios) was a Brazilian film studio established on 15 March 1930 in Rio de Janeiro, and remained in continual operation until 1951. Between 1930 and 1945, Cinédia averaged two films a year, with a high of five in 1936. Dirce Grandino de Oliveira (April 7, 1922 – June 18, 1999), known as Dircinha Batista, was a Brazilian actress and singer. Biography Daughter of the singer/composer/ventriloquist Batista Júnior and sister of Linda Batista, Dircinha Batista was a very successful Brazilian singer. In a career of more than forty years she recorded over three hundred 78RPM discs with many big hits, especially Carnaval songs. She worked in sixteen Brazilian movies and was a child prodigy. Dircinha began performing at festivals at age six. She began to participate in her father's shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo beginning in 1928.
