Helgi Már Magnússon
Helgi Már Magnússon (born August 27, 1982) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player who is currently the head coach of KR in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla. As a player, he has won seven national championships in Iceland during his career. Club career In February 2016, Helgi won his first Icelandic Basketball Cup after having lost in his previous four cup finals. Helgi announced is retirement from top level play following the 2015-2016 Úrvalsdeild season. but returned to the team in March 2018. A month later, Helgi won his sixth Icelandic championship after KR defeated Tindastóll in the Úrvalsdeild finals. On 4 May 2019 he won his 7th national championship after KR beat ÍR in the Úrvalsdeild finals 3-2. On 5 January 2020, he appeared in an Úrvalsdeild game for the fourth different decade. The South Atlantic Conference men's basketball tournament is the annual conference basketball championship tournament for the South Atlantic Conference. The tournament has been held annually since 1992. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. Finnur Atli Magnússon
Finnur Atli Magnússon (born 14 September 1985) is an Icelandic basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic men's national basketball team. He won the Icelandic championship as a member of KR in 2011, 2015 and 2019. In 2012, he was named to the Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team. Playing career College Finnur played college basketball for Catawba College from 2005 to 2009. Club career Prior to joining Wesleyan Christian Academy in the United States in 2004, Finnur played for KR-b in the 2. deild karla and the Icelandic Basketball Cup from 2002 to 2004. Returning to Iceland in 2009, he rejoined KR, this time with the main team in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild. Darri Freyr Atlason
Darri Freyr Atlason is an Icelandic basketball coach and sports commentator. In 2019, he led Valur women's team to both its first national championship and first Icelandic Cup win. As a player, he won two national championships with KR in 2014 and 2015. Playing career Darri came up through the junior ranks of KR and played his first senior game with the team during the 2011–12 Úrvalsdeild karla season. He retired from playing in 2015 to fully focus on coaching. Coaching career Darri was hired as the head coach of 1. deild kvenna club KR in 2015. He led them to second place finish during the 2015–2016 season and was named the 1. deild kvenna Coach of the year. EuroBasket 2015
EuroBasket 2015 was the 39th edition of the EuroBasket championship that was organized by FIBA Europe. It was co-hosted by Croatia, France, Germany, and Latvia, making it the first EuroBasket held in more than one country. It started on 5 September and ended on 20 September 2015. The top two teams ( and ) qualified to the 2016 Summer Olympics. ÍR Men's Basketball
The Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur men's basketball team, commonly known as ÍR, is the men's basketball department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland and was one of the pioneers of basketball in Iceland and one of the founding members of the men's Úrvalsdeild. From 1954 to 1977, the team won fifteen national championships. In 1964, it became the first Icelandic team to compete in a continental competition when it defeated the Collegians from Belfast, 71-17, in the first round of the 1964–65 FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). ''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. The 2017–18 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 67th season of the Úrvalsdeild, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on October 5, 2017 and ended on April 28, 2018. KR won its fifth title in a row by defeating Tindastóll 3–1 in the Finals. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent once home and once away for a total of 22 games. Iceland Men's National Basketball Team
The Iceland men's national basketball team ( is, Íslenska karlalandsliðið í körfubolta) represents Iceland in international basketball tournaments. The team is controlled by the Icelandic Basketball Association. Iceland has qualified for the EuroBasket twice, with the national team making their first ever appearance in 2015. They also participate at smaller European tournaments, such as the Games of the Small States of Europe.
