Darri Freyr Atlason
Darri Freyr Atlason is an Icelandic basketball coach and sports commentator. In 2019, he led Valur women's team to both its first national championship and first Icelandic Cup win. As a player, he won two national championships with KR in 2014 and 2015. Playing career Darri came up through the junior ranks of KR and played his first senior game with the team during the 2011–12 Úrvalsdeild karla season. He retired from playing in 2015 to fully focus on coaching. Coaching career Darri was hired as the head coach of 1. deild kvenna club KR in 2015. He led them to second place finish during the 2015–2016 season and was named the 1. deild kvenna Coach of the year. Prior to coaching senior teams Darri coached youth programs in KR, winning multiple national and cup championships in various age groups. KR Men's Basketball
The KR men's basketball team, commonly known as KR or KR Basket, is a professional basketball club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the men's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (English: Reykjavík Football Club) multi-sport club. It has won the Icelandic championship eighteen times, the most national championships in the men's top-tier league history. In 2017 the club played in FIBA Europe Cup for the first time since 2008. The Icelandic Women's Basketball Supercup ( is, Meistarakeppni kvenna) is a basketball super cup competition that opposes the latest winners of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna – the top-tier Icelandic national women's domestic league – and the winners of the Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup, the top-tier national women's cup competition in Iceland. Almar Orri Atlason (born 28 December 2004) is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Bradley University and the Icelandic national team programs. He played up through the junior ranks of KR before heading to Italy in 2019 where he joined A.S. Stella Azzurra. He returned to KR the following season and started his senior team career during the 2020–21 season. In August 2022, Almar Orri joined Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas, United States. In April 2023, he announced that he join Bradley University. National team career In August 2021, he was selected to the U-18 All-First team of the Nordic Tournament after averaging 14 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. In 2022, he led Iceland to the semi-finals of FIBA IBA U18 European Championship Division B after posting 22 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks in a win against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Keflavík men's basketball team, commonly known as Keflavík, is the men's professional basketball department of Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag), based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. In sport, a whitewash or sweep is a series in which a person or team wins every game. The Valur men's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur multi-sport club. History The club was founded as ''Gosi'' on 25 December 1951 and was one of the founding members of the Icelandic men's top division. On 22 December 1957 the club changed its name to ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Reykjavíkur'' (English: Reykjavík Basketball Club) and played under that name until 1970. On 3 October 1970 the club merged into Valur sports club and became its basketball department. Under the new name, Valur had considerable success in the 1980's, winning the Icelandic championship two times, in 1980 and 1983, and the Icelandic cup three times, 1980, 1981 and 1983.
