Kaitlyn Helena Howard (born July 23, 1998) is an American actress. She is known for her breakout role in Josephine Decker's film '' Madeline's Madeline'', which was hailed by IndieWire as one of the 50 best performances of the 2010s decade and 2nd in ''The New Yorker'''s list of the 50 best film performances of the 21st century. Early life Howard was born on July 23, 1998, in New York City, New York. Her parents, both artists, are Julia Binet and Will Howard. Her mother is of Scandinavian and Eastern European descent, and her father is African American of mixed descent. She has a younger brother, Liam. Josephine Decker (born April 2, 1981) is an American actress, filmmaker, and performance artist. As of 2020 she has directed four experimental feature films: the psychological thriller '' Butter on the Latch'' (2013), the erotic thriller '' Thou Wast Mild and Lovely'' (2014), the coming-of-age drama ''Madeline's Madeline'' (2018), the semi-biographical thriller ''Shirley'' (2020), and the coming-of-age drama ''The Sky is Everywhere'' (2022). The Independent Spirit Awards (abbreviated Spirit Awards and originally known as the FINDIE or Friends of Independents Awards), founded in 1984, are awards dedicated to independent filmmakers. Winners were typically presented with Poly(methyl methacrylate), acrylic glass pyramids containing suspended shoestrings representing the bare budgets of independent films. The Gotham Film & Media Institute (also simply the Gotham), formerly known as the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), is a membership-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to independent film. It offers programs that assist independent filmmakers in connecting with film-industry professionals and, ultimately, audiences, and presents the annual Gotham Awards. It was founded in 1979 by independent filmmakers as the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP). Under the IFP umbrella, the New York City organization has over 5,000 members.
