Hebrew Old Testament Text Project
The Hebrew Old Testament Text Project (HOTTP) was an international and interconfessional committee of six Hebrew Bible scholars organized in 1969 by Eugene Nida, then head of the translations department of the United Bible Societies (UBS). This UBS sponsored committee was made up of Dominique Barthélemy, Alexander R. Hulst, Norbert Lohfink, W.D. McHardy, Hans Peter Rüger, and James A. Sanders. Nida served as chair of the committee with secretaries Adrian Schenker and J. A. Thompson. As a result of holding annual meetings from 1969 to 1980 to review issues of textual criticism deemed significant for translators, the committee issued a five-volume ''Preliminary and Interim Report'' between 1973 and 1980 (edited by Schenker) which is also sometimes referred to and cited as "HOTTP." Eugene Nida
Eugene A. Nida (November 11, 1914 – August 25, 2011) was an American linguist who developed the dynamic equivalence, dynamic-equivalence Bible translation, Bible-translation theory and one of the founders of the modern discipline of translation studies. Life Eugene Albert Nida was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 11, 1914. He became a Christian at a young age, when he responded to the altar call at his church "to accept Christ as my Saviour." He graduated ''summa cum laude'' from the University of California in 1936. After graduating he attended Camp Wycliffe, where Bible translation theory was taught. He ministered for a short time among the Tarahumara people, Tarahumara Indians in Chihuahua (state), Chihuahua, Mexico, until health problems due to an inadequate diet and the high altitude forced him to leave. The United Bible Societies (UBS) is a global fellowship of around 150 Bible Societies operating in more than 240 countries and territories. It has working hubs in England, Singapore, Nairobi and Miami. The headquarters are located in Swindon, England. Norbert Lohfink SJ (born July 28, 1928 in Frankfurt am Main) is a member of the Jesuit Order, German Catholic priest and theologian . He is emeritus professor of exegesis of the Old Testament at the Philosophical-Theological College Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main. The Hebrew University Bible Project (HUBP) is a project at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to create the first edition of the Hebrew Bible that reproduces the text of the Aleppo Codex and includes a thorough critical apparatus. It was begun in 1956 by Moshe Goshen-Gottstein, assisted by Chaim Rabin and Shemaryahu Talmon. These three scholars were the project's first board of editors. The text reproduced in this edition is the Aleppo Codex; the full masora (large and small) in that manuscript is included, but not massora from other sources.
