Liu Shichao ( zh, s=刘世超, p=Liú Shìchāo), popularly known as Hebei Pangzai ( zh, c=河北胖仔, p=Héběi Pàngzǎi; lit. 'Hebei fatty' or 'Hebei fat guy'), is a Chinese Internet personality. After gaining a following inside China, Liu became popular abroad in late 2019 when Kuaishou videos showing his ability to rapidly consume large amounts of food and drink went viral on Twitter. Videos Liu registered on Kuaishou, a Chinese short video app and competitor to TikTok, in 2016, eventually focusing on videos of himself drinking and cooking. His video stunts typically involve outlandish drink portions and combinations, such as "beer, rice wine, spirits, a can of Red Bull, and an egg" mixed together and drunk within eight seconds. He reached over 470,000 followers on the app, earning up to 300 Renminbi per day through live broadcasts, before his account was shut down by Kuaishou for "unhealthy content." Hebei or , (; alternately Hopeh) is a northern province of China. Hebei is China's sixth most populous province, with over 75 million people. Shijiazhuang is the capital city. The province is 96% Han Chinese, 3% Manchu, 0.8% Hui, and 0.3% Mongol. Three Mandarin dialects are spoken: Jilu Mandarin, Beijing Mandarin and Jin. Kuaishou ( zh, c=快手, l=quick hand) is a users short video-sharing mobile app, a social network, and video special effects editor, based in Haidian District (Beijing), developed in 2011 by Beijing Kuaishou Technology, by engineers Hua Su (宿华) and Cheng Yixiao (程一笑). As of 2019, it has a worldwide user base of over 200 million, leading the "Most Downloaded" lists of the Google Play and Apple App Store in eight countries, such as Brazil. In Pakistan and Indonesia, this app is known as Snack Video. It is often referred to as "Kwai" in overseas markets. Its main competitor is Douyin, which is known as TikTok outside China. TikTok, known in China as Douyin (), is a short-form video hosting service owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. It hosts user-submitted videos, which can range in duration from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. TikTok is an international version of Douyin, which was released in the Chinese market in September 2016. It launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in most markets outside of mainland China; however, it became available worldwide only after merging with another Chinese social media service, Musical.ly, on 2 August 2018.
