Heart of America is a charity single written by Tim Blixseth, Edra Blixseth and "two music-industry professionals". The song became the anthem for the ''Today'' TV show's "Make a Difference" campaign to benefit the victims of 2005's Hurricane Katrina. In 2005 Tim Blixseth appeared on the show to talk about the song, which was inspired by a dream. The song was recorded by Wynonna Judd, Michael McDonald, Terry Dexter and Eric Benét. It was played on NBC as part of a Habitat for Humanity campaign and was included on the 2005 compilation album '' Hurricane Relief: Come Together Now''. In June 2006, '' Ebony'' magazine reported the song had raised $41 million with projected revenues of $100 million. Heart Of America (college Rugby)
The Heart of America Rugby Football Union is a college rugby conference playing in Division I-AA, with membership composed mostly of Big 12, Big Ten and SEC schools (and many of these schools enjoying longstanding rivalries from the former Big Eight Conference). HOA organizes a league competition with the winner qualifying for the national playoffs, and every fall hosts a rugby sevens tournament with the winner qualifying for the national sevens championships. Heart of America was a Division 2 conference until 2011, with Arkansas and Missouri ranked among the top teams in Division 2. In summer 2011, however, with the creation of the Premier College Division (Division I-A), several conferences including HOA decided to move up to Division I-AA. ''Heart of America'' is a 12-metre class yacht that competed in the 1987 Louis Vuitton Cup. The boat was helmed by Buddy Melges and represented the Chicago Yacht Club. Heart of America Council serves Scouts in Missouri and Kansas. This council was formed on July 1, 1974, with the merger of the former Kansas City Area (Kansas City, Missouri) and Kaw (Kansas City, Kansas) Councils. History The Heart of America Council has grown from a fledgling organization in 1910 to a council serving over 30,000 youth in 2015. There are 14,813 trained leaders volunteering their time and talent to serve the youth in the nineteen counties making up the council. In 2015 Scouts provided over 196,000 hours of service to residents and organizations in the council. There were 16,905 rank advancements and 32,279 merit badges earned during that calendar year. Kansas
Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west.
