Lake Hazar
Lake Hazar ( tr, Hazar Gölü, hy, Ծովք լիճ, Covk‘ lič) is a rift lake in the Taurus Mountains, 22 km southeast of Elazığ, notable as the source of the Tigris. It was formerly known as Lake Geoljuk. During the Armenian genocide the lake was used as an execution site. Sunken city Scientists found 4,000-year-old archaeological traces of a city below the lake. The city has been submerged in Lake Hazar, since 1830. Turkey wants to register its historic 'Sunken City' in eastern Anatolia as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hazar Mountains
Hazaran (Hazar, Hezar) is the name of a massif of the Central Iranian Plateau, Kerman Province, Iran, an eastern outlier of the Zagros Mountains. With an elevation of 4500 metres, it is the highest peak in Kerman Province. The jebal Barez chain is a continuation to the south-east. The Halil River rises in the Bid Khan region. The massif is situated in the area encircled by the cities of Kerman, Bardsir, Sirjan, Baft, Jiroft and Bam. Made chiefly of Eocene andesite and pyroclastic rocks, Mount Hazar or Hazaran is situated in a central Iranian range, Sahand-Bazman volcanic range or belt, a mountain range which was formed mainly during Eocene volcanism and that stretches approximately from Sahand Volcano in the north-west of Iran to Bazman Volcano in the south-east of Iran. Hesaruiyeh ( fa, حصاروييه, also Romanized as Ḩeşārū’īyeh; also known as Hazār, Hazārū, and Hisāru) is a village in Khatunabad Rural District, in the Central District of Shahr-e Babak County, Kerman Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 221, in 54 families. Hesaruiyeh is located roughly southeast of Shahr-e Babak. Etymology One local author suggests that the name comes from the words ''Ḩeşār'' (), meaning "fort", "fence", "wall", or "barrier", and ''bārū'' () meaning "fortification". Hazar (until 1999 known as Çeleken, also written Cheleken; russian: Челекен; Persian: Chaharken ) is a seaport town located on the Cheleken Peninsula of the Caspian Sea. It is directly subordinate to the city of Balkanabat in Balkan Province of western Turkmenistan. In November 2022, it was downgraded from city-with-district-status to a town. Etymology Hazar (also Khazar, a backformation of rus, Хазар) was the name of a Turkic people, the Khazars (''viz.''), who lived on the shores of the Caspian Sea and lent their tribal name to the body of water in several Turkic languages, including Turkmen.
