Haylan
Haylan ( so, Heylaan), is a town in the eastern Sanaag region of Somaliland. Overview An old settlement, Haylan is the site of numerous ancient ruins and buildings, many of obscure origins. Northeastern Somalia in general is home to numerous such archaeological sites. Located near Badhan, the town is also where Sheikh Darod, the founding father of the Darod clan, lived and was buried. Sheikh Darod's wife, Dobira, is also buried here. Sanag ( so, Sanaag, ar, سَنَاج) is an administrative region (''Administrative divisions of Somaliland, gobol'') in north eastern Somaliland.Regions of Somalia
Sanaag has a long coastline facing the Gulf of Aden to the north, and is bordered by the region of Sahil, Somaliland, Sahil to the west, Sool, Somaliland, Sool to the south and Somalia to the east. Qombo'ul ( so, Qumbucul) is a very old and historical town in the eastern Sanaag region of Somaliland. Overview Qombo'ul lies approximately 40 km east of Badhan, on the road to Bosaso and west of the town of Mindigale. An old settlement that is ancient, it is the site of quite a few ancient ruins, buildings and structures, many of obscure origins. Eastern Somaliland in general is home to numerous such archaeological sites, with similar edifices found at Haylan, Qa’ableh, Maydh, Gelweita and El Ayo. El Ayo
El Ayo ( so, Ceelaayo, ar, عيلايو), also known as El Ayum, is a coastal town in the eastern Sanaag region of Somaliland, near the border with Somalia. There is a base of the Puntland Maritime Police Force, which is effectively controlled by Puntland. History Ancient times El Ayo is one of a series of ancient settlements in Somaliland. About one mile from the town are the ruins of an old city, which are held to have belonged to an earlier civilization which resided in the region. Between El Ayo and Las Khorey lies Karinhegane, the site of numerous cave paintings of real and mythical animals. Each painting has an inscription below it, which collectively have been estimated to be around 2,500 years old. Around 25 miles from Las Khorey lies Gelweita, another key rock art site. Maydh (also transliterated as Mait or Meit) (, ) is an ancient port city in the eastern Sanaag region of Somaliland. Badhan, Sanaag
Badhan ( so, Badhan; ar, برن), also known as Baran is a city in the Sanaag region of Somaliland. Overview It was always in danger of flooding during the raining seasons. In 1971, the town was re-located near a borewell called Badhan and it has assumed the name ever since. The area was first settled in the 14th century by Somali herdsmen from the Warsangali subclan of the Darod clan, as there was water available for their flocks. Badhan is also famous for being the stage of battles between the Dervishes of Mohammed Abdullah Hassan and the Sultanate of Warsangeli. Hassan, the leader of Dervishes, ordered the construction of a new grand fort in the city. Nowadays, the fort is in need of restoration, as time has worn it down. Dobira
Dombiro ( ar, دُومبِرَ بِنت دَغَالَ), was a Somali historical figure, known for being the wife of the progenitor of the Darod clan, Sheikh Abdulrahman al-Jabarti. Biography Dombiro was the daughter of Dagale (Dikalla), the Dir clan chief. While other historical works mention that Dombira was the daughter of Hawiye.
