"Have Love, Will Travel" is a 1959 song written and recorded by Richard Berry. While the song may have been recorded before the end of 1959, the correct release date appears to be January, 1960. The title is based on a popular television/radio western serial '' Have Gun, Will Travel''. The Sonics version In its best known incarnation, garage-rock protopunkers, The Sonics, included the song on their 1965 album, ''Here Are The Sonics''. Driven by a riff doubled on guitar, sax and bass, a big driving drum sound, screaming vocals and a saxophone break, it epitomized their sound. The Sonics changed the key from G to C, modified the riff (performing it instrumentally, rather than vocally), and (while they used the original chord progression, a basic 1-4-5-4 progression, G-C-D-C in G, or C-F-G-F in C), the modified riff emphasizes cross-relations of minor/major intervals against the keyboard. Richard Berry (musician)
Richard Berry, Jr. (April 11, 1935 – January 23, 1997) was an American singer, songwriter and musician, who performed with many Los Angeles doo-wop and close harmony groups in the 1950s, including The Flairs and The Robins. He is best known as the composer and original performer of the rock standard "Louie Louie". The song became a hit for The Kingsmen and others, and it is one of the most recorded songs of all time; however, Berry received little financial benefit for writing it until the 1980s, having signed away his rights to the song in 1959. In the same year, he wrote and released "Have Love, Will Travel", which has been recorded by many other artists. Skid Roper
Skid Roper (born Richard Banke, October 19, 1954, in National City, California, United States) is an American musician, most active in the 1980s and early 1990s. He has recorded with several groups including the surf band The Evasions, but is best known for his work with Mojo Nixon between 1985 and 1989. With Nixon, Roper served mainly as an instrumentalist. He commonly played instruments such as the washboard and the mandolin. Since parting ways with Nixon in 1989, Roper has released three solo albums. The first two albums had a much stronger country influence, and were considerably less raucous than his work with Nixon. Roper also formed a surf band called Skid Roper and the Shadowcasters. Roper's latest CD, ''Rock and Roll Part 3'', was released in 2010. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. ''7 Axes'' is an extended play (EP) (or Mini-LP) by Australian singer songwriter Diesel. It was released in February 2011 and sees Diesel paying homage to the artists and musicians that have inspired him. The EP follows a national tour which Diesel completed in November 2010. Diesel toured this EP in March and April 2011. "Have Love, Will Travel" was released as the first and only single from the album on 4 January 2011. Background and recording "It all stemmed from my live shows" Diesel said. He was doing shows in Sydney and Melbourne and performing covers; "Liberation Records heard about it and said, 'you've got to make a record like that'. So we have!" Mark Denis Lizotte (born 31 May 1966) is an American-born Australian singer-songwriter and musician, who has released material under the name Diesel, Johnny Diesel, as leader of band Johnny Diesel & the Injectors, and as a solo performer, as well as under his birth name. Two of his albums reached No. 1 on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Charts, '' Hepfidelity'' in 1992 and '' The Lobbyist'' in 1993. Since 1987, Lizotte, has played on several albums by his brother-in law, Australian rock singer, Jimmy Barnes. "The Moan" is a single by the American blues-rock duo The Black Keys, first released on 7" vinyl in 2002 (ALIVE0047-1), and on CD in 2004 (ALIVE0047-2). The CD is their last release for Alive Records, as the band switched to Fat Possum Records to publish their LP ''Thickfreakness'' the previous year. The original cut of "Have Love Will Travel", which is a Sonics through Richard Berry cover, was first released on ''Thickfreakness''. "Heavy Soul (Alternate)" differs from the version released on ''The Big Come Up''. "No Fun" is a Stooges cover. The 7" vinyl single has been pressed on several different colors (black, pink, red, purple and most recently turquoise).
