Charley Pride
Charley Frank Pride (March 18, 1934 – December 12, 2020) was an American singer, guitarist, and professional baseball player. His greatest musical success came in the early to mid-1970s, when he was the best-selling performer for RCA Records since Elvis Presley. During the peak years of his recording career (1966–1987), he had 52 top-10 hits on the '' Billboard'' Hot Country Songs chart, 30 of which made it to number one. He won the Entertainer of the Year award at the Country Music Association Awards in 1971 and was awarded a Grammy for “Best Country Vocal Performance, Male” in 1972. Pride is one of three African-American members of the Grand Ole Opry (the others being DeFord Bailey and Darius Rucker). He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. 16th Avenue Records
16th Avenue Records was an independent record label specializing in country music. The first 16th Avenue label was founded in Toronto in May 1981 by Apple Productions Corporation principals Stan Campbell and Veronica Mataseje. In May 1984, 16th Avenue Records moved to Nashville, Tennessee. In 1987 the Opryland Music Group assumed the 16th Avenue Records name with Jerry Bradley as President. The label's first signee was Charley Pride, whose 1987 single "Have I Got Some Blues for You" was the label's first release. Jerry Owen Bradley (January 30, 1940 – July 17, 2023) was an American music executive known for his role in country music. As head of RCA Records in Nashville from 1973 to 1982, Bradley was involved in the marketing and creation of the first platinum album in country music, ''Wanted! The Outlaws'', which reached that mark in 1976. Bradley was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2019. Early life Bradley was born on January 30, 1940, in Nashville, Tennessee.
