Hassan Sunmonu
Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu is a Nigerian trade unionist who was president of the Nigerian Labour Congress from 1978 to 1984. He is a former General-Secretary of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity. Life Sunmonu was born in the village of Akim-Eshiem, Ghana to Nigerian parents. He has an identical twin brother named Hussein, both of whom worked with the Federal Ministry of Works in the 1960s. Sunmonu briefly attended a primary education in Ghana before following his paternal grandmother and mother back to Nigeria where they settled at Osogbo. In Osogbo, he attended Ansar Ud Deen, Osogbo (1948-1950), All Saints School, Osogbo and then Osogbo Grammar School (1955). As a young student, he and his twin met Alake Ladapo Ademola who was then in exile in Osogbo. Organisation Of African Trade Union Unity
The Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU) ( French: Organisation de L'Unité Syndicale Africaine; OUSA) is an independent regional union federation aimed at unifying trade union centres in Africa. This organisation was founded in April, 1973 as a successor to two previously competing labour union organisations in Africa: the All-African Trade Union Federation (AATUF) and the African Trade Union Confederation (ATUC). The process to unify a Pan-African labour union organisation also involved international labour organisations as decision-making stakeholders like the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) and the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). Ladapo Ademola
Oba Sir Ladapo Samuel Ademola KBE, CMG (1872–1962), also known as Ademola II, was the Alake of Abeokuta from 1920 to 1962. Before he was crowned Alake, Ademola was involved in the affairs of the Egba United Government. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is an umbrella organization for trade unions in Nigeria. History The Nigerian Labour Congress was founded in December 1978, as a merger of four different organisations: the Nigeria Trade Union Congress (NTUC), Labour Unity Front (LUF), United Labour Congress (ULC) and Nigeria Workers' Council (NWC). However, the recently-established Federal Military Government, led by Murtala Mohammed, refused to recognise the new organisation, and instead set up the Adebiyi Tribunal to investigate the activities of trade unions and their leaders.
