Hasrat is a popular name predominantly used in Indian subcontinent. It is also a popular pen name for Urdu poets in India and Pakistan. It's an Urdu word, meaning "wish" or "desire". Notable Urdu poets that use this pen name include: Muhammad Abdul Qadeer Siddiqi Qadri 'Hasrat' (1871–1962), Hasrat Jaipuri (1922-1977) and Hasrat Mohani (1875-1951). An Indian revolutionary Ashfaqulla Khan (1900-1927) also used to write Urdu poetry with this pen name; the full name of Ashfaq was Mohammad Ashfaqulla Khan Warsi 'Hasrat'. Hasrat Jaipuri, born Iqbal Hussain (15 April 1922 – 17 September 1999) was an Indian poet, who wrote in the Hindi and Urdu languages. Hasrat Mohani
Syed Fazl-ul-Hasan (1 January 1875 – 13 May 1951), known by his pen-name Hasrat Mohani, was an Indian activist, freedom fighter in the Indian independence movement and a noted poet of the Urdu language. He coined the notable slogan ''Inquilab Zindabad'' (translation of "Long live the revolution!") in 1921. Together with Swami Kumaranand, he is regarded as the first person to demand complete independence for India in 1921 at the Ahmedabad Session of Congress. Maghfoor Ahmad Ajazi supported the complete independence motion demanded by Hasrat Mohani. Ashfaqulla Khan
Ashfaqulla Khan (22 October 1900 – 19 December 1927) was an Indian independence activist in the Indian independence movement and co-founder of the Hindustan Republican Association. Early life Khan was born in the Shahjahanpur district of the United Provinces to Shafiq Ullah Khan and Mazharunissa, Muslim Pathans of the Khyber tribe who belonged to the landlord class. He was the youngest among his five siblings. In 1918, while Khan was in the seventh standard, police raided his school and arrested the student Rajaram Bhartiya in relation to the Mainpuri Conspiracy, in which activists organised looting in Mainpuri to fund the publication of anti-colonial literature.
