Agnigarh
Agnigarh (Pron:/ægɪˈgɑː/) is a hillock located in Tezpur, Assam, India. In Hindu mythology, it is the site of the fortress which was built by Banasura to keep his daughter Uṣā, Usha in isolation. The name itself is derived from the words 'Agni' (meaning fire) and 'garh' (meaning fortress or wall) in Sanskrit. Legend Legend has it that this fortress was surrounded by fire at all times so that nobody could go in or out of the perimeter without permission. Uṣā, Usha fell in love with Aniruddha in her dreams, not knowing that he was the grandson of Krishna. Her companion Chitralekha(deity), Chitralekha identified him by painting his portrait from Usha's description. Chitralekha () is a friend of Uṣā, and the daughter of a minister of Banasura, who ruled from his capital of Śoṇitapura. She employs her magical powers to unite Uṣā with her lover, Aniruddha. Legend The daughter of Banasura, Uṣā, once dreamt of Aniruddha, the grandson of Krishna. Uṣā fell in love with the youth, despite not knowing his identity. The following morning, after hearing her friend's tale and observing her gloom, Chitralekha made portraits of many known charming princes, but Uṣā was unable to identify them as the youth of her dream. Nipon Goswami
Nipon Goswami (3 September 1942 – 27 October 2022) was an Indian actor and theatre artist associated with Assamese language, Assamese-language films. He was one of the veteran actors of Assamese Film Industry. He started his acting career as a stage actor and later established himself as a film actor. Personal life Goswami was born on 3 September 1942 at Kolibari in Tezpur, Assam. His father Chandradhar Goswami was a famous actor and his mother Nirupama Goswami was a singer. He did his primary schooling at Kolibari LP School. After that, he moved to Tezpur Govt. HS School. He died after suffering from heart-related ailments on 27 October 2022, at the age of 80. Hem Barua ( as, হেম বৰুৱা; 25 April 1893 – 11 August 1945) was an Indian independence activist, social worker and writer from Sonitpur district of the Indian state of Assam. For his remarkable works to the people of Assam, he is called Tyagbir (ত্যাগবীৰ). Early life and education Hem Barua was born on 25 April 1893 to Gopal Chandra Barua and Padmawati Barua at Tezpur. He completed his high school education at "Barpeta H.S. School" in 1915. In 1919 he graduated with honours in English from Cotton College, Guwahati. In that period he was elected as G.S. to the Cotton College Student Union. Ananda Chandra Agarwala
Ananda Chandra Agarwala (1874–1940) was a writer, poet, historian, translator and administrative officer from Sonitpur district of Assam. He is known as Bhangoni Kunwor (ভাঙনি কোঁৱৰ) for his translation of several English poems into Assamese. He was elected as a president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in 1934 held at Mangaldoi. Charles Alexander Bruce
Charles Alexander Bruce (11 January 1793 – 23 April 1871) was a British naval and gunboat officer, explorer and author. He is known as the father of the tea industry in Assam. Life Bruce was born at Jorhat in Assam. In 1809 he was a midshipman on the Indiaman ''Windham'', sailing from England to India. The vessel was captured by French forces, twice, in the Indian Ocean, and he was taken to Mauritius. There he was imprisoned on a ship, until the British invasion of 1810. He served as an officer on a British troop ship in the invasion of Java (1811). In India, he worked initially as a naval officer of the East India Company.
