Hartselle
Hartselle is the second largest city in Morgan County, Alabama, United States, south of Decatur. It is part of the Decatur Metropolitan Area and the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 15,455. Hartselle was founded in 1869 with the arrival of the South and North Alabama Railroad. It takes its name from George Hartselle, one of the railroad's owners. The post office opened in 1873. It was formally incorporated on March 1, 1875. Most of the oldest buildings were destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1916. Geography Hartselle is located in western Morgan County at (34.440383, -86.940385). It is in the north-central part of the state along Interstate 65, which runs from south to north through the easternmost parts of the city, with access from exits 325 and 328. The Huntsville–Decatur, AL Combined Statistical Area is the most populated sub-region of North Alabama, and is the second fastest growing region in the State of Alabama, with 659,486 living within the CSA. It is also currently the 57th largest CSA in the country. The CSA is situated along the Tennessee River, and is made up of two separate metropolitan areas ( Decatur and Huntsville) that are usually referred to as one. The Decatur MSA lies south of the Tennessee River and the Huntsville MSA lies north of it. The Decatur, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area is a moderately urban region of North-Central Alabama. The 2020 Census put the population of the metropolitan area at 152,740, of which one-third resides within the boundaries of its core city, Decatur, Alabama, It is also considered to be part of the North, Northwest, and North-Central regions of Alabama. State Route 36 (SR 36) is a east–west state highway in the northern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at its intersection with SR 33 at Wren, an unincorporated community in Lawrence County. The eastern terminus of the highway is at its intersection with U.S. Route 231 (US 231) at Lacey’s Spring in Morgan County. Route description Alabama State Route 36 begins in Wren at AL-33. To the south is the hill that is characteristic of the northern border of the William B. Bankhead National Forest directly visible to the south. Lacey's Spring is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in northeastern Morgan County, Alabama, Morgan County, Alabama, United States at the base of Brindlee Mountain.
