Boone County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. Centrally located in Mid-Missouri, its county seat is Columbia, Missouri's fourth-largest city and location of the University of Missouri. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Missouri Conservation Commission were created by Article IV Sections 40-42 of the Missouri Constitution, which were adopted by the voters of the state in 1936 as Amendment 4 to the constitution. The Commission is vested with control, management, restoration, conservation, and regulation of fish, forest, and wildlife resources of the state. The Department of Conservation owns and oversees hatcheries, sanctuaries, refuges, and reservations, and enforces the state wildlife code. Katy Trail State Park
The Katy Trail State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri that contains the Katy Trail, the country's longest recreational rail trail. It runs , largely along the northern bank of the Missouri River, in the right-of-way of the former Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. Open year-round from sunrise to sunset, it serves hikers, joggers, and cyclists. Its hard, flat surface is of "limestone pug" (crushed limestone). Three Creeks Township is one of ten townships in Boone County, Missouri, USA. The township's contains part of the city of Ashland and also a part of the village of Pierpont. History Settled mainly by settlers from the upland south (Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee), the township was named the three major creeks draining it: Boone Femme, Turkey, and Bass Creeks. Much of the area was too hilly for agriculture and was settled by freed slaves after the civil war. The Columbia Regional Airport is located on former prairie east of U.S. Highway 63. Gans Creek Recreation Area
The Gans Creek Recreation Area is a 320-acre public park in Columbia, Missouri, United States. Its name derives from Gans Creek, which flows through the property. It borders the Rock Bridge Memorial State Park on its western edge. The park is owned by the City of Columbia and operated by the Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation.
