Harry Shearn
Harry Vivian Shearn (28 April 1892 – 21 January 1951) was an Australian politician who was an independent member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1936 until his death, representing the seat of Maylands. Shearn was born in Guildford, Western Australia, to Matilda Anne (née Connolly) and Michael Shearn. He worked for his father's real estate agency after leaving school, and took it over completely following his father's death in 1917. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18. The Liberal Party of Australia (Western Australian Division), branded as Liberal Western Australia, is the division of the Liberal Party of Australia in Western Australia. Founded in March 1949 as the Liberal and Country League of Western Australia (LCL), it simplified its name to the Liberal Party in 1968. There was a previous Western Australian division of the Liberal Party when the Liberal Party was formed in 1945, but it ceased to exist and merged into the LCL in May 1949. Many of these have either resigned or been expelled from membership in political parties, and some have gone on to form their own political parties over time. David Grayden
David Grayden ( Ives; 25 May 1924 – 9 June 2003) was an Australian politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1950 to 1953, representing the seat of Nedlands. Grayden was born in Perth to Ethel May (née Harper) and Aubrey Leonard Ives. His older brother was Bill Grayden, an MP at both state and federal level, while the brothers' maternal grandfather was businessman Nat Harper, who was also involved in politics. Their mother remarried in the 1930s, changing the brothers' surname to that of their step-father. Grayden spent part of his early childhood in the United Kingdom, but eventually returned to Perth, where he attended Wesley College. Ross McLarty
Sir Duncan Ross McLarty, (17 March 1891 – 22 December 1962) was an Australian politician and the 17th Premier of Western Australia. Early life McLarty was born in Pinjarra, Western Australia, the youngest of seven children of Edward McLarty, a farmer and grazier and member of the Western Australian Legislative Council, and his wife Mary Jane, née Campbell. He attended Pinjarra State School and the Perth Boys' High School. On 12 January 1916 he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force at the Blackboy Hill depot. On 27 March he was promoted to corporal and assigned to the 44th Battalion, arriving in England on 21 July. The 44th Battalion departed England for the Western Front on 25 November 1916. McLarty was promoted to sergeant on 29 March 1917. William Raymond Read (21 July 1882 – 29 April 1974) was an Australian politician who was an independent member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1945 to 1953. He also served on the City of Perth, Perth City Council from 1926 to 1965. Early life Read was born in Lilydale, Victoria, to Henrietta (née Raymond) and Alfred Read. He attended high school in Bendigo, and then moved to Western Australia to attend Perth Technical College, graduating as a pharmacist in 1902. Read eventually established his own pharmacy in Victoria Park, Western Australia, Victoria Park.
