Harry Muskee
Harry "Cuby" Muskee (10 June 1941 – 26 September 2011) was the singer of the blues band Cuby + Blizzards, which he co-founded with Eelco Gelling. Muskee was born in Assen, and died in Rolde aged 70. Biography Muskee was born in the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen. Early on, he lived with his mother at his grandmother's place, because his father was captured and transported to Germany. Only after the war – when he was four years old – he saw his father for the first time. The family moved to Rotterdam, but returned to Assen after two years. His mother suffered from multiple sclerosis and could not properly care for her child. Assen () is a municipality and a city in the northeastern Netherlands, and is the capital (politics), capital of the province of Drenthe. ''NRC'', previously called ''NRC Handelsblad'' (), is a daily morning newspaper published in the Netherlands by NRC Media. It is generally accepted as a newspaper of record in the Netherlands. Grolloo
Grolloo is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 11 km southeast of Assen. History The village was probably first mentioned in the 12th century as Grunlo, and means "green open forest". Grolloo is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages on the Hondsrug as a satellite of Rolde. The village has two ''essen'' (communal pastures) on the east-side and a little ''brink'' (village square). From 1550 until 1669, the ''Landdag'' (legislative assembly) of the province of Drenthe was held in Grollerholt, a forest near Grollo. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1853, and has a wooden tower with a needle spire. The tower contains a bell from 1422. The church was restored in 1975. Grollo was home to 272 people in 1840. Erwin Java
Erwin Raymond Java (Assen, 1956) is a Dutch guitarist, active since the 1970s, and a music teacher. Biography Java got his first guitar, a Fender Stratocaster, from his father when he was a teenager. After attending the gymnasium in Assen, he studied Dutch language and literature at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Later he attained a degree in music, majoring in guitar, from the Prince Claus Conservatoire. One of his first bands was White Honey, from 1978 to 1981, where he played with Hanneke Kappen. He left that band to join Herman Brood's Wild Romance (1980–1981), and in 1986 joined Cuby and the Blizzards, a band headed by singer Harry Muskee, for whom Java was a chauffeur for a quarter of a century. John Lee Hooker
John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1912 or 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The son of a sharecropper, he rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta blues. Hooker often incorporated other elements, including talking blues and early North Mississippi hill country blues. He developed his own driving-rhythm boogie style, distinct from the 1930s–1940s piano-derived boogie-woogie. Hooker was ranked 35 in ''Rolling Stone''s 2015 list of 100 greatest guitarists. Rolde
Rolde () is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Located in the municipality of Aa en Hunze, it lies about 6 km (3.7 mi) east of Assen. In 2021, Rolde had a population of 3,905. History Rolde was a separate municipality until 1998, when it became a part of the newly-established municipality of Aa en Hunze.
