Harry F. Wentz Studio
The Harry F. Wentz Studio, also known as the Harry F. Wentz Studio-Bungalow and Studio Neah-Kah-Nie, is a historic house located in the Neahkahnie community near Manzanita, Oregon, United States. Designed by artist Harry F. Wentz and architect A. E. Doyle and built ''circa'' 1916, this bungalow came to be regarded as a prototype of the Northwest Regional style of architecture. Some of the characteristic features of the house include: colors and materials associated with the Northwest, especially timber; low massing with simple wall surfaces; porches with slender wooden supports; and siting to harmonize with the surrounding landscape. The style was later more fully developed by John Yeon and Doyle's colleague Pietro Belluschi.. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.. John Yeon
John Yeon (October 29, 1910 – March 13, 1994) was an American architect in Portland, Oregon, in the mid-twentieth century. He is regarded as one of the early practitioners of the Northwest Regional style of Modernism. Largely self-taught, Yeon’s wide ranging activities encompassed planning, conservation, historic preservation, art collecting, and urban activism. He was a connoisseur of objets d’art as well as landscapes, and one of Oregon’s most gifted architectural designers, even while his output was limited. Manzanita, Oregon
Manzanita is a coastal city in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States. It is located on U.S. Route 101 about 25 miles (40 km) south of Seaside and 25 miles (40 km) north of Tillamook. The population was 603 at the 2020 census. History The indigenous Tillamook people lived along the Oregon coast, including the Manzanita area (tidewaters of the Nehalem Bay), for about twelve thousand years. They suffered from smallpox and other illnesses brought by white settlers, and the few remaining Tillamook people were relocated to the Siletz and Grand Ronde reservations in the 1850s. At least two of Oregon's historical shipwrecks occurred off the Manzanita coast: the ''Glenesslin'' in 1913'','' and the ''Santo Cristo de Burgos'' (disappeared 1693) which has generated rumors of treasure buried on Neahkahnie Mountain.
