Harry Borghouts
Henricus Cornelius Johannes Lodewijk (Harry) Borghouts (born 7 February 1943) was the Queen's Commissioner in the province North Holland from 2002 till 2009. He is a member of the political party GreenLeft. He was the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Justice in the Netherlands from 1996 to 2002. Harry Borghouts was born in Bergen op Zoom in the Netherlands. His father, who fought for the Dutch resistance during World War II, was State Secretary of Defence from 1965 to 1966. After his gymnasium education in Rotterdam, where he majored in arts, Borghouts studied to be a naval officer at the Royal Netherlands Naval College from 1961 to 1964. Afterwards, he studied Law at the University of Amsterdam, where he graduated in 1977. The Ministry of Defence ( nl, Ministerie van Defensie; MinDef) is the Dutch Ministry responsible for the armed forces of the Netherlands and Veterans Affairs. The Ministry was created in 1813 as the "Ministry of War" and in 1928 was combined with the "Ministry of the Navy". After World War II in the ministries were separated again, in this period the Minister of War and Minister of the Navy were often the same person and the State secretary for the Navy was responsible for daily affairs of the Royal Dutch Navy. In 1959 the ministries were merged. GroenLinks (, ) is a green political party in the Netherlands. It was formed on 1 March 1989 from the merger of four left-wing parties: the Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Pacifist Socialist Party, the Political Party of Radicals and the Evangelical People's Party, which shared left-wing and progressive ideals and earlier co-operated in Regenboog-coalition for the 1989 European Parliament election. After disappointing results in the 1989 and 1994 general elections, the nascent party fared particularly well in the 1998 and 2002 elections. The party's leader at that time, Paul Rosenmöller, was seen as the unofficial Leader of the Opposition against the First Kok cabinet, a purple government. Johannes Wijnandus "Johan" Remkes (born 15 June 1951) is a Dutch politician and nonprofit director who served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 2002 to 2003 under Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende. He is a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Remkes studied Economics at the University of Groningen obtaining a Bachelor of Economics degree. Remkes served as chairman of the political youth organisation JOVD from July 1975 until November 1977.
