Harrogate–Church Fenton Line
The Harrogate–Church Fenton line was a railway line opened by the York and North Midland Railway between 1847 and 1848 linking Harrogate and Church Fenton. History The Harrogate–Church Fenton line is a former railway line in North Yorkshire, which ran from Harrogate to Church Fenton. It was staked out by York and North Midland Railway in September 1845 and the line opened from Church Fenton to Spofforth on 10 August 1847. The line from Spofforth and Harrogate was opened on 20 July 1848 after the major engineering structures on the line (the 31-arch, Crimple Viaduct and the Prospect Tunnel) were completed. A short lived station named ''Crimple'', located on the junction with the Leeds–Harrogate line immediately east of the viaduct, only appeared in timetables from 1867 to 1869 and has been demolished. Cross Gates–Wetherby Line
The Cross Gates–Wetherby line is a former railway line in West Yorkshire, England, between Cross gates, near Leeds, and Wetherby. The line opened 1876 and closed 1964. History and description Construction began in 1871, with the work contracted to Thomas Nelson of Carlisle. Works on the line included over a dozen cuttings, and a similar number of embankments, with the cutting between Thorner and Scarcroft being deep with a volume of ; the largest bridge on the line was over the River Wharfe with twin spans of with a central pier of two cast iron columns. Collingham, West Yorkshire
Collingham is a village and civil parish south-west of Wetherby in West Yorkshire, England. It is in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 2,991. It sits in the Harewood ward of Leeds City Council and Elmet and Rothwell parliamentary constituency. The River Wharfe runs through the village towards Wetherby, as does the main A58 trans-Pennine road. The A659 passes through the village. Linton, West Yorkshire
Linton is a village south-west of Wetherby in West Yorkshire, England, in the parish of Collingham and the City of Leeds metropolitan borough. At the 2011 Census the village fell within the Harewood ward of the City of Leeds Council. It lies between Wetherby and Sicklinghall, on the north bank of the River Wharfe, opposite Collingham on the south bank. History Little is known of the early history of the village, but archaeologists have dated more than 8000 local flints to between 10,000 and 2000 BC, and crop marks round the village point to ditched enclosures and field systems in the Iron Age and Roman period (800 BC – 410 AD). North Eastern Railway (United Kingdom)
The North Eastern Railway (NER) was an English railway company. It was incorporated in 1854 by the combination of several existing railway companies. Later, it was amalgamated with other railways to form the London and North Eastern Railway at the Grouping in 1923. Its main line survives to the present day as part of the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh. Unlike many other pre-Grouping companies the NER had a relatively compact territory, in which it had a near monopoly. The Stray is a long area of public parkland in the centre of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, comprising of contiguous open land linking the spa town's curative springs and wells. Hornbeam Park is a railway station on the Harrogate Line, which runs between and via . The station, situated north of Leeds, serves the spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. Stutton railway station was a railway station in Stutton, North Yorkshire, on the Harrogate to Church Fenton Line. The station opened on 10 August 1847 and closed to passenger traffic on 30 June 1905. It remained open to goods traffic until it closed completely on 6 July 1964. ROF Thorp Arch was one of sixteen Second World War, UK government-owned Royal Ordnance Factory, which produced munitions by "filling" them. It was a medium-sized filling factory (Filling Factory No. 9). It was located on the banks of the River Wharfe, north-east of the two villages of Boston Spa and Thorp Arch; and four miles south-east of the town of Wetherby, West Yorkshire in England.
